    JonBenet Ramsey & Jaclyn Dowaliby

I found this on another JonBenet Site:

In 1988 seven-year-old Jaclyn Dowaliby was kidnapped from her bedroom, there were no signs of a break in, 4 days later her body was found in a
field wrapped in a multicolored quilt.
The cause of Jaclyn's death was ligature strangulation, a rope was
wound tightly around her neck twice, extending down the body and
    lying freely between her legs.
A pair of white cotton panties were lying about one foot from
    Jaclyn's feet.
Two hairs were found in her panties, a pubic hair and a head hair.
In both cases, (JonBenet and Jaclyn) both parents became suspects in
    the girls' murders.
The only difference is that Jaclyn Dowaliby turned up dead four days
after her disappearance in a field 5 miles from home,
JonBenet was found strangled in her family's basement.
So why was JonBenet's murder so famous and Jaclyn's murder wasn't ?
Aunt Pam: JonBenet why don't you put your shoes on? JonBenet: Because I want to feel the rhythm of the earth under my feet.

I remember lots of comparisons being made here between the two murders, but that's been a long time ago now.

    Weren't Jaclyn's parents finally exonerated?

    Shanny,

Jaclyn Dowaliby was not forgotten and got attention:

She was mentioned a lot in the Websleuth forums.

She had a tv movie made in 1996 "Gone In The Night"

Bill Kurtiss had a whole program dedicated to her case on A&E a while back.

Shanny, where did this murder take place, do you know? The US presumably, but what town or city and what state? The similarities to the JonBenet murder make it very interesting. Sorry for not offering an answer to your question.

This took place in the USA in Chicago, Illinios

My guess is that becasue JonBenet did her pageants and her parents were rich, it made more media head lines. No one really knew about child Beauty Pageant until JonBenet exploded on the scene, if you noticed the magazine don't even call her by her name they call her "The little Beauty Queen"

    Cable Channels

It's only been since the OJSimpson trial that the 24 hour news channels have gone in high gear publicizing real life crime. At the time of the Dowaliby murder you didn't have Greta, Nancy Grace, Geraldo, etc. If that murder had happened today, it would have had a lot of coverage--particularly when the media would have gotten wind of Daley's influence, and what was going on behind the scenes.

The Dowaliby's lived in a southwest suburb of Chicago--Blue Island or something like that. It was a working class suburb for the most part. Not reported, except in the book was the number of child abductions in the area that never made the news.

The whole investigation was influenced by Daley Jrs. run for office. It was not good for him that no one was charged. Many involved in the investigation did everything possible to obtain a conviction---which included lies to the grand jury--influencing doctors to write bogus reports, and trumped up evidence. Even after David Dowaliby was released, the whole matter quietly went away--it wouldn't have been good for the mayor, police, etc. to be embarassed by arresting and convicting the real murderer (the ex-brother-in-law was a good suspect).

The Ramsey case was deju vu of the Dowaliby case all over again--how not to conduct an investigation. In fact, after JBR's murder there was a legal (?)seminar held in Denver on the Dowlaiby case, which some of the people involved in the Ramsey investigation went to.

The Dowaliby's cooperated with the investigation in the beginning--and see where it got them? David Dowaliby passed the first lie detector test---but the second was twisted against him. They asked him to admit that he killed Jacqueline as part of the begininning in setting up the test, and he refused to do that, which caused the results to be skeered against him.

Re-visiting Dowaliby evidence? With all the advances in DNA analysis, I wonder why they haven't gone back to test evidence such as clothing for DNA? Either the evidence was destroyed, or the police are satisfied to let sleeping dogs lie. And if there is DNA, why isn't it in a national database? No word on whatever happened to the paranoid schizo ex-brother-in-law.

There were signs of a breakin--a lower level window was broken. That is the room the mother-in-law normally slept in, but she didn't come home that night. Even Henry Lee was involved in the broken glass analysis, but I don't recall whose side he was on.

This was not a large house, but someone got in--snatched Jacqueline, and carried her out without the parent's waking up. If the ex-brother-in-laws "visions" are the truth, he got in, and carried her out with her comforter, without her waking up.

And the movie: "Gone In The Night" (based on Dowaliby) came out in 1996. Maybe Bynam et al knew about this and thus warned the Ramsays. Come to think of it, maybe our perp saw the movie and got some ideas. Thanks, Maikai for the info.
