TN - Cocke Co. coroner banned from crime scenes

Coroner resigns after being banned from crime scenes (wbir.com)

After what he did to a dead man's body last month, Coroner Terry Jarnigan better stay away from any and all crime scenes and dead bodies in Cocke County.
    ---
Coroners often go to scenes and view bodies as part of their work.

Jarnigan, however, has been going too far, according to court documents.
    ---
While examining the body, Jarnigan stuck two fingers into the place where a bullet had exited. When he realized there was brain matter on his fingers, he put it back into the wound, according to the affidavit, making a comment like, "Oh, brains."

    Ewww.

How'd this guy make it all the way to coroner? There were certainly red flags in his background, JMO.
If nothing else, he lacks the respect necessary for such a position. Move on man, you're done.

I hope he hasn't compromised prior death determinations. Creep.

In some places it's not difficult to become the coroner, even veterinarians get the job at times.

    From link in OP:

In 1977, while known as Terry Lackey, Jarnigan was convicted among other felony counts of "willful injury by explosives" and arson and detonation of explosives with intent to harm a person. He eventually changed his name to Terry Jarnigan.
WTH? High standards for that office, obviously.

A lengthier look at this macabre tale from the Newport Plain Talk:

Coroner barred from crime scenes, plans resignation

....the injunction mandates that Jarnigan “shall not be present at any crime scene or purported crime scene,” that he “shall not disturb or touch evidence of any purported or suspected crime or crime scenes,” and that he “shall not disturb or touch bodies of victims or purported victims of crimes.”
    ---
An article from last month, same source, with copy of injunction:

Judge approves injunction against county coroner Jarnigan

    ---
Det. Wilson stated in her affidavit that she was in the process of getting her camera out so she could take better photos of the gunshot wound, when Jarnigan allegedly began to turn the head from side to side.

Jarnigan then allegedly touched the victim’s head wound, Det. Wilson said in the affidavit.

The coroner system needs to be done away with. Back in the day, it was usually just the guy with the biggest or only funeral home in town. Forensics have come too far for anyone except a medical examiner to view the body/scene and complete an autopsy, order the appropriate lab work.

Unless I provide a link or refer to a specific link, all my ramblings are theories, speculation, scenarios based on what info is available and my own unique life experiences.
