Orphaned exotic birds are helping heal those healing them, at the Veterans Administration complex in West Los Angeles.
The Serenity Park Parrot Sanctuary there is staffed by veterans who have suffered PTSD, and in working to rescue and heal the birds, director Matthew Simmons says the traumatized vets are finding they are being healed too. There's a lovely video at the link which really demonstrates the love and trust between the veterans and the birds. And I have to say the breakfasts being prepared for them look really first class! It's all funded by donations too - much of them coming from the veterans themselves.
Serenity Park is open to the public as well, for anybody ever out that way.
