Using the old URL for this case, I ran it through the Wayback Machine, and found that the archived version of the page still includes the PM photo. (thanks ebonydarkness)

If you decide to try this yourselves, be forewarned that the photo is a bit gruesome. I am not going to post a direct link here, but if you want to look, here's the URL string to plug into Wayback Machine.

Juan Ernesto Echegaray very strongly resembles this John Doe, and most of the other parameters are pretty much inline.

I just sent an email to Daniel Machian (at the LA Coroner's office), asking him if Juan Echegaray can be compared to this John Doe.

Just saw the PM. Is that 3 days worth of decomp or was he killed earlier?

That looks like about 3 days of decomp. Since he was inside of a car, animals and insects were probably unable to get to the body.

I already received a reply from Daniel Machian.

Juan Echegaray is not a match, he had full dentures, and the UID did not.

I e-mailed Meaghan at Charley Project to suggest that she include full dentures in his physical description.

It would help to know if this is suicide or homicide. I wonder if LE is specifically withholding the CoD or if it was omitted by mistake.

i couldnt get the wayback machine to work?

Wayback didn't work for me, either.

I wonder whose car he was found in.

No problem. I'm glad the trick I suggested could have led, however indirectly, to a Charley Project case file being updated.

And it also led, indirectly, to a reconstruction being created for this John Doe. :)

(BTW, Don't rely on the ear for identification. It was not shown in the postmortem, so I had to get it from somewhere else to complete the image.)

You either need to take the " off the start and end of link. Or when you go to wayback machine take the http out of the link or out of the search box, as when you copy and paste the link wayback adds http to it so you end up with it twice which causes it not to work.

Huh. He looks just like the guy who delivers my newspaper every morning. Newspaper guy is from San Ysidro, CA, for what it's worth.

i got it to work now, but it is saying there is no photo availabe. so maybe it doesnt work for me, odd.

I did that, it just flat doesn't work for me.

Could he have been a drug courier or a drug dealer who got robbed? The case sounds a lot like a guy who got killed next to my hometown- someone snuck up on him while he wasn't paying attention (obviously) and shot him while he was in his car.

Yeah, we get a lot of homicides like that in the Boston area. It's any kind of organized crime -- twenty years ago, corruption in the trucking and construction business, then drugs, and recently human trafficking as well as new drugs. But if he was involved with something like that, you'd think his fingerprints would have turned up his identity. Most people in that situation have had encounters with the authorities.

My guess is he was "part-timing it" & was not breaking the law often enough to get caught, hence his murder (being unseasoned)...or...he got set up to be killed for being troublesome to a dealer. (Snitching, owing money, talking foolishly.)

BTW stick up robbers are great at profiling good targets, especially drug couriers, who are not going to go to the police (obviously) and are big paydays.
