Rita Bartschot, 40, a teacher at Columbia Basin Community College in Pasco, was last seen alive the morning of Aug. 24. She was working in the yard at her late mother's house in the 5500 block of 31st Avenue Northeast.

Deputy Prosecutor Rebecca Roe said there is probable cause to believe Thompson forced Bartschot to give him her bank card. Then, Roe asserted, Thompson killed her, disposed of her body and took her car and cash card.

The alleged statements about Bartschot's body were made to two other King County jail inmates while Thompson was jailed on a first-degree theft charge last fall, the prosecutor said. "While in jail on that charge, he told another jail inmate that he had `kept the victim' to get the access-card number, and that the cops would 'never find the body,'" Roe said.

Friends and colleagues of educator Rita Bartschot continue to mourn her death and celebrate her life, convinced that she met a terrible fate. Her body has not been found. Drew Richard Thompson, the lanky man found guilty of murdering her, is taking the secret of her demise with him to prison.

Thompson, 32, gave no hints yesterday as King County Superior Court Judge Liem Tuai imposed punishment of 32 years behind bars...

Seattle police homicide Detective Jay Mooney said after the hearing that the King County medical examiner's office has Bartschot's dental records, should her body ever be found. But there is no active search. "We wouldn't know where to begin to look," Mooney said.
Drew Thompson's brother appears to be a vicious killer as well:

Drew, the convicted killer, is in prison for abducting Rita Bartschot off a Ravenna street 19 years ago and then killing her at a time and point still unknown. He remains in prison; she was never found.

Curtis, the thrice-convicted sexual predator, now prepares to face a King County jury in the death of Deborah Byars, a mother of two who was stabbed to death with a screwdriver in August 2004...

According to court documents, Curtis and Drew Thompson were raised primarily by their mother in Seattle and Oregon. Throughout it all, Curtis Thompson told evaluators, he sexually assaulted relatives and pre-teen girls living nearby. Despite his mother's Jehovah's Witness faith, he and others had "a sexual free-for-all" with children in the area.
Even NamUs doesn't have a photo of Rita. How sad is that?
