Thieves in Hendersonville, Tennessee who stole Karen Wilkes' Christmas tree certainly put some effort into it; it was a 10 feet tall, fully decorated Colorado spruce planted in her front yard. They had to saw it off at the trunk to take it away.

Karen has refused to let the theft spoil her Christmas though. She intends to plant another tree right in the same place, and doesn't want the thieves prosecuted. She would like an apology though.

The thieves were selfish, greedy people though. It would have taken many years for the Colorado spruce to grow to that height. The new seedling Karen intends to plant will take so long to reach "Christmas tree" height that Karen will be and adult before it reaches 10 feet tall.
The thieves just didn't want to pay for a Christmas tree from a supermarket. They could have bought a Christmas tree from any department store.
