Horry County Fire and Rescue confirmed that the family is from New York so the area is unfamiliar territory for the child. Jayden's father traveled to South Carolina to join the search efforts as soon as he heard the news.

Police, first responders, K9 teams, the American Red Cross and nearly 100 community members split into groups to search for the missing child. Horry County Police Department, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, CUE Center for Missing Persons, North Myrtle Beach Fire and Police are also helping in search efforts.

Bringing these over from the main thread. NY news outlets have the story now as well.

The boy’s grandmother was watching Jayden as his mother shopped at Wal-Mart only hours after they arrived from New York for the holidays.

“She was distracted for a few minutes and the front door was open,” Denis said.

Police have no reason to believe Jayden was abducted.

The child's mother, Tabatha Morrison, tells local media outlets the family arrived at her mother's house on Christmas Eve day from White Plains, New York.
She says her son is autistic and non-communicative and won't respond if his name is called. She says he likely would not be able to find his way home because he is not familiar with his grandmother's neighborhood.

SCDOT officials brought in lights, because the family said Jayden likes yellow lights.

Elmo and Dora music fill the streets and areas of the search, in hopes Jayden will follow the music to safety.

"We have been investigating it from every point of view. We have actually had officers that have located or found out where all the sex offenders are in the area and we've actually been in touch with those sex offenders and searching houses as much as possible so we don't want to rule anything out,” said Chief Saundra Rhodes, Horry County Police.

Police said everyone involved has been cooperating with the search for Jayden. Police said they're also checking in homes in the area where no one is living and looking for anyone in the area that may have surveillance footage from the time he went missing.
