    UK - Colin Pine, 55, Washington, 21st December 2014

This man is local to my area in the North East of England. Last Sunday was a big day for both North Eastern football (soccer) clubs. We played each other, Newcastle v Sunderland. Colon was watching the game at The Swan Inn at Heworth in Gateshead which is on the opposite side of the River Tyne from Newcastle. He left the pub at 9pm and hasn't been seen since. His home was about 15 miles from the pub and normally he would be expected to take the bus home, but some are worried that he may have tried walking home. I know his daughters have tweeted for help on Twitter. He's still not home.

Well I don't need to tell you about how dangerous derby day can be with people drinking all day.

I suppose my best guess is that he fell down drunk somewhere and hasn't been spotted yet, which doesn't bring me to a very positive place as it's been pretty cold the last few days and was very frosty last night. If he started walking then I don't know the area well but it's not a particularly small area to search. He might not have even headed in the right direction if he was drunk.

I haven't heard anything about his time at the pub, but I'd be interested to know if he got into any disputes with anyone. Emotions would have been running high, particularly if the crowd contained fans of both teams, and I'd hate to think he fell out with the wrong person.

Derby day is madness for drinking. Too many spending all day in the pub drinking all day.

Someone had to see him in the pub if he was there. I wonder if he's tried to walk back to Washington and, being drunk and probably cold, laid down in a field and just never woken up? I know there was a young lad a few years ago who tried to walk back from Cramlington to Seaton Deleval and he was found curled up in a field dead. He had just laid down and died of hypothermia.

Not sure what CCTV is like around there. But if he had got on a bus then they would have him on their CCTV. With all the fields between Heworth and Washington he could be anywhere and there's no guarantee he went in the right direction, if he was really drunk.

Hope he is found soon for his family's sake. They must be worried sick.

There hasn't really been any further news or any more information beyond what has previously been released. I've seen lots of sharing on social media though so awareness is being pushed constantly.

On Boxing Day officers searched undergrowth just yards away from his home in Washington and carried out door-to-door inquiries.

Superintendent Scott Hall said: “Mr Pine’s family are desperate to hear from him, this is distressing at any time of year but over the Christmas period it is particularly difficult.

“If anyone has any information about where Mr Pine is, if they saw him after the match on Sunday or think they may have seen him since, we want to hear from them.

I'm surprised they haven't been able to exclude busses as they have CCTV. The number 4 bus goes from Albany to Heworth Metro. The police have surely checked whether he got on a bus at Heworth back to Albany.

Ugh. I always hate to read a river being mentioned in these missing situations...I hope he didn't stumble into it and get in trouble.

The river Tyne is to the north, Colin would have walked south/south-east to return home. Its an odd comment for the article to make as its not really relevant. Unless they have reason to believe he headed north... but I have not read anytihng to suggest that.
He would have had to cross the river don if he walked home, but its not particularly large.
Buses were running as usual that evening. I spent the night at my parents house in Sunderland and the neighbours got the metro and bus home from the match. Almost all of our buses have cctv these days, he would likely have taken the number 4 or number 82 bus from Heworth to Washington. He *may* have had to change to another bus at the galleries bus station but its likely he could alight somewhere close to his home as the bus was passing instead of getting another bus back.

The Tyne/Wear Derby has a history of violence and people gettting out of control, but since the Ukraine plane was shot down the supporters seem to have agreed a some sort of truce and the day went without its usual hassle. So its not like he got caught up in riotous behaviour (as has been rife in previous years).

Map at link should show The Swan Pub & Colins home and possible (walking) routes between them.

I live next to the 2 large lakes approx 2 miles to the west of Colins home. I havnt heard of any searches taking place, I have offered our time to the police but they havnt got back to me.

So sad there are no updates.

The family are trying to share further details via Facebook, which is that he hasn't been confirmed to have ever been in the Swan and this was only based on what he suggested to his wife and the report of a barmaid from what was a very busy day in the pub. They are asking to hear from anyone who may have seen him after 1pm when he left the house.

They're also indicating his phone last pinged in the Washington area around 8pm which goes against him still being in the Swan at 9pm.

I'm not seeing any more news articles to confirm these details but his poor family is desperately trying to get the word out. If there are any public searches over the next few days I'll be able to go along but I'm waiting to hear if anything is arranged.

Football fan missing for a week

It's now a week since a football fan went missing after the Tyne Wear derby.....

He'd rung his family in Washington to tell them he was coming home but never arrived.

So sad. I feel so badly for his family. I hate to imagine them entering the New Year with no idea what happened to him.

Quoting myself to provide a new link to back this up:

    http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/...ington-8356319

Mr Pine spoke to his wife at around 6pm on December 21, and said he would get the bus home.

There were reported sightings of him at the Swan, and he was originally believed to have left the pub at around 9pm.

But now police have revealed there was no 100% positive identification on images shown to staff and regulars during investigations.

Experts have traced a signal on his mobile phone being in Washington at around 6pm on Sunday evening and, following this new information, the focus of the search has moved to the Washington area.

Police searching for a missing Washington man say they are keeping an “open mind” about his movements on the day he disappeared.

^^ Basically the same info. ^^

I can't believe they still haven't found him

*Detectives say that led them to focus of the search on the Washington area. Specialist marine officers, the dog section and police horses have been used, as well as specially trained volunteers from Northumbria Mountain Rescue Service, to carry out searches throughout the festive period and those searches are continuing.
    *Phone tracked

Colin Pine: Agonising wait for the family of missing Washington man enters its third week

The agonising wait goes on for the family of missing Washington man Colin Pine.

The 55-year-old disappeared following the Tyne and Wear derby on Sunday, December 21 and his family faced Christmas with no idea of his whereabouts.

    [snip]

A signal from his mobile phone was later traced back to Washington, and it is believed he may not have been in the pub all evening.

Northumbria Police has now shifted its search to the Washington area. Officers, supported by the specialist marine unit, the dog section and mounted unit, as well as volunteers from Northumbria Mountain Rescue Service and a police helicopter, have been carrying out extensive searches over the Christmas period and their search continues into a third week today.
