When animal welfare workers tipped off authorities to check out the 'pandas' in a circus touring Italy, they found the animals were two Hungarian chows, dyed to look like pandas.

The animals have been rescued now and are okay, though one looks to have very sore eyes. The article says that was probably caused by the camera flashes of all the people who paid to have their photos taken with the poor hounds, but I think it's more likely to be where the cruel circus people used dye around their eyes.

The owner's been arrested, on animal abuse, but I can't find reports of the name of the circus, unfortunately.

Directed by Federico Fellini, no doubt.

Any Italian speakers, can you take a glance at this article and confirm it's stating the name of the circus please?

Google has a great translator -

"It happened before the shows at the Circo Orfei Nelly (family different from that of known Nando, and Darix Moira Orfei), currently encamped area Traveling Show Brescia".

And a vet stated they were about 6 months old...thankfully someone intervened on their behalf.

That dog does look a bit like a panda.
