Australia - Dane Kowalski, 27, Diamond Creek, Vic, 12 Dec 2014

Police are appealing for anyone with information regarding the disappearance of Diamond Creek man, Dane Kowalski.

Dane left his home in his car around 5pm on 12 December.

The 27-year-old told family he was heading towards the coast to stay in the Leongatha and Wilsons Promontory areas until 19 December.

Dane has not been heard from since.

Police have received information that suggests that rather than heading south, Dane may have travelled to the Northern Territory via South Australia.

Police have released an image of Dane in the hope that someone may recognise him.

Facebook is full of posts about Dane. I feel so sad for his family and friends who are desperate to find him. He obviously has some very good mates who have done the big trip up north to look for him. I can only hope this brings some comfort to his family. What are we thinking has happened? I feel he may have had an accident or car broke down. Something like that.. But I don't think there will be a good outcome Come home Dane.

Link to news article of search being organized:

The drive from Melbourne to Darwin is 3752 kilometers (2331 Miles) so that's a pretty big search area with very little else to go on. I wish there was cell phone pings or sightings to help the searchers start some place definite.

What I don't get is that it would probably take about 3 or 4 days to drive to Darwin allowing time to sleep. He left on the 13th of Dec and was expected to attend Christmas dinner on the 25th. Why would you drive four days each way to spend 4 or so days to go fishing. Just doesn't make sense to me. Although from what I can gather he seems quite adventuresome so who knows...... His friends are doing a fantastic job with searching and there raising and keeping awareness campaign. Pretty impressive.

I'm in 2 minds as to whether he even made it out of Melbourne. His phone was switched off right from the get go.

If you click on the link there is a radio interview on 3aw with one of his mates who has been searching for him. He refers to Dane constantly in the past tense. The poor buggers must be thinking the worst at the moment.....

Just bumping it up there again as Melbourne hits lunchtime
And adding the twitter feed of the #finddane hashtag
    https://twitter.com/hashtag/finddane

Very frustrating case...such a big country, so many remote areas. The most recent searches have turned to Wilson's Prom which was a possible destination according to sources. This narrows the search down as it's about a 3 hour drive as opposed a 43 hour drive to Darwin. The thing is that Wilson's Prom is pumping at this time of year. It is not possible, even if you do the outback camping trails, that someone didn't see him. I really wish there were some clues...

    Latest news report:
    http://www.heraldsun.com.au/leader/n...4c0862df178f3d
In recent weeks, his friends have scoured the Northern Territory, South Australia, far west NSW and Victoria by road and air, while the ‘Find Dane’ Facebook page has reached more than 20,000 ‘likes’.

Friend Chris Carrig said the group believed Dane did not make it to the Territory as an extensive search had not turned up any leads.

Just got something on my Facebook to help find him.. So his phone was switched off almost straight away? I think I saw a news bulletin on this where the family was saying he just said he was going away for a few days but they didn't know where? Might've been a different person, but I'm sure it was someone from VIC driving to the NT..

He had told his Mum he was heading to Wilson's Prom area but told his friends he was heading to Darwin. http://m.3aw.com.au/news/the-search-...06-12iot1.html
