UT - Officer Jedediah 'JR' Steadman, 34, West Jordan, 31 Dec 2014

    Jedediah “JR” Steadman

West Jordan police ask for help finding missing officer
WEST JORDAN — The West Jordan Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating a missing member of its force who might be stranded somewhere in the mountains.

Jedediah “JR” Steadman, 34, left his home Tuesday morning after having an argument with his wife, the West Jordan Police Department said in a news release. He has not been seen or heard from since.

He left in his blue 1998 Dodge truck with the Utah license plate B963D and a fallen officer memorial decal. He is 5 feet 9 inches tall and 160 pounds with brown hair and eyes, police said.

The department noted Steadman is an “avid outdoorsman” and likes to fish and hunt. Officials believe he might be stranded somewhere, and his wife and family members are “very concerned and express their love and support,” the statement said.

Steadman is a seven-year veteran of the police department who was recently promoted to detective in the property crimes unit.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

"(We have) no reason to believe anything of suicide or harm to himself or anybody else, or foul play — nothing," said West Jordan Police Sgt. Dan Roberts. "(We) have no indications for any of that."

    -----------------------------------------------------------

"We won't give up the search effort. We're getting to the point now that he's past his weekend and he's expected to be on duty, and we'll ... stick with it until we find him," Roberts said.

Still missing... 3 full days now.
They should really have some idea of where he would have gone I would think.
This just doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Searches were being conducted Friday in six new areas in hopes of finding a West Jordan police officer who has been missing since Tuesday.

    -------------------------

Friday was the first day when Steadman would have been expected to show up at work. Instead, searchers looked for the missing officer, pursuing leads throughout the state in previously unsearched areas, including in Tooele and Summit counties.

    --------------------------

Anyone interested in joining the search effort is asked to report to the West Jordan Police Department, 8040 S. Redwood Road. Police are asking people not to search for Steadman alone.

Steadman and his wife had argued the previous evening, but things seemed fine when he left (Tuesday morning).

It was initially reported that he left after an argument with his wife.
Many people were speculating that he had left to avoid any issues in that area.
The fight being the previous night changes things a bit... why would he leave at all?

The facebook group isn't public, I wish it was.

At the end of the day, West Jordan police announced online that they had scoured all of the places where they believed they would most likely find Steadman.
The department will not be coordinating any more volunteer searches until they have new leads on where to look.

I wonder what the fight with his wife was about? Was it the usual type of bickering over nothing OR was it a big thing that would have made him very angry?>

    I don't know...
I'm still unclear on the timing.
It was initially reported as if he left the house at the TIME of the fight.
Now it's being reported it was the next day.
Just because it was the next day doesn't mean everything was fine.
It isn't uncommon for couples to go to bed mad... and one thinks everything is fine while the other does not.

f they were fighting cuz she spent too much $ on Christmas or something like that, it might not have been related. But if he found out she was cheating on him or something it might be the trigger.

All I know is we go snowmobiling in one of the areas they were searching.
So we will be keeping an eye out for his distinctive truck.
We were actually already up there on the 1st but didn't see anything then.

I am making sure they have covered the gas stations and places in that area.
If they haven't I will have some fliers made and cover them myself.

When you are dealing with canyons and things like that... it's crucial to have fliers at the gas station.
Almost every single person stops once, either on the way up or on the way down.
They may see him while up there and not realize it, until they see the flier at the gas station on the way down.
There is only 2 gas stations and two snowmobile/ATV stores in that town.
That is easy enough to make sure they both have the information.

They are saying not to approach him if you see him.
I also haven't heard anything about his cell phone records or pings or anything.

Authorities told FOX 13 News they know where Steadmanís cell phone is and that it is not with him. They also said his bank and credit cards and electronic devices donít give any clues to where he could be.

So he either had cash or didn't go far enough to need gas?
That should give them a radius to look in.. his wife should know if he had enough cash to put gas in.

Maybe he did harm himself...The argument might have triggered something really bad, who knows. You never know what's going on in somebody's mind and soul.
