TX - Brittany Stevenson, 24, Lake Waco, 31 December 2014

    Brittany Stevenson

Woman reported missing after crashing car into Lake Waco
A 24-year-old woman who drove her car into Lake Waco late Wednesday night was still missing Thursday night and police are asking for the publicís help to locate her.
Shortly after 11 p.m., it was reported that a car went into the water at the dead end of McLaughlin Road in Speegleville Park at the lake, according to Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton.
The sergeant said the car, a red Kia Forte, was being driven east on McLaughlin and crashed through a guardrail and jumped a man-made dirt barrier before traveling a short distance further into Lake Waco.
Two women, one of whom was Brittany Stevenson, were in the car, Swanton said. The other woman was able to get out of the car and went for help after swimming to shore. She told officers that she did not see Stevenson escape the sinking car, Swanton said.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

    How scary!

I assume this was an accident & she did not intentionally drive into the lake?
Was drinking involved? This would have been the evening if NYE. From the above article, it sounds like they plan to continue searching the lake for her, but aren't ruling out that she was able to swim to shore as her friend did & walk away from the scene (which IMO, seems so very bizarre- I mean, wouldn't she be a little shaken up, not having made contact with her friend ... ? And then walking away soaking wet, etc... Again JMO, but that seems so far fetched... Yet, I've read so many things that at first seem far fetched & then ....). Praying that she did escape her car & walked away, un-injured. Again, HOW SCARY!!!!

Not sure if there are going to be any news articles following up on this, but the friend's account of what happened after the car entered the lake only raises more questions (but not in a "suspicious" way). I don't understand how Brittany was unable to make it to shore. Since I can't link to where this was said, am I allowed to paraphrase her account of events?
