    Mexico - Hari Simran, 30, Tepoztlan, 30 December 2014

Northern Va. Yoga Teacher Hari Simran Missing in Mexico
A Northern Virginia yoga teacher and world traveler has been missing since Dec. 30, when he left for a hike in the Tepozteco Mountains in Mexico. Hari Simran and his wife Emily Smith had been attending a four-day yoga retreat called "Sat Nam Fest" near Tepoztlan, about 30 miles south of Mexico City. The couple lives in Leesburg, Virginia.

Simran sent a friend a photo of himself hiking around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, about three hours into what was supposed to be a short hike. He hasn't been seen or heard from since. "The next day, they sent three search teams. They chartered a helicopter ... we chartered a helicopter, the federal police came," Smith explained, adding searchers haven't consistently had a helicopter with infrared radar available to them.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

by Tuesday afternoon, Hari Simran sent his wife another text saying he had walked father than intended.

With only a liter of water and some trail mix, that was the last anyone heard from him.

Friends and family back in Brooklyn were desperate to get the GPS coordinates of Hari Simran’s cellphone from T-Mobile, and Mexican cellphone provider Telcel, to pinpoint exactly where he could be.

T-Mobile told CBS2: “By law, we can only work directly with law enforcement, and privacy laws prohibit us from discussing any specific actions we take. We can confirm we received contact with the FBI and are working with them.”

Search parties have been out day and night, and believe they’ve heard Hari Simran’s cries for help. But because of the treacherous terrain, they have not been able to figure out where he is.

    from findharisimran.com:

"We spoke to a local Search And Rescue (SAR) who specializes in rescuing paragliders in the local mountains. He is bringing SAR from neighboring Guanajuato this evening. They are equipped with search dogs and mountaineering gear
We’ve also learned that Harisimran Texted a friend at 03:30 PM after what we thought was his last known text at 2:30 PM. It read 'I’ll get back to you on that. I’m on top of a really high mountain in Mexico and I’m not exactly sure how to get down '"

"Yesterday Hari Simran Singh Khalsa, of Leesburg, VA + Brooklyn, NY, left the Sat Nam Fest Mexico site it Tepoztlan, Mexico to go for a short day hike (3-4 hrs). He left the site between 11:00 & 11:30am. At 12:30 he send me this photo with the message “Looking down on you!”

The next message I received at 2:20pm said “I accidentally summited another mountain. Looks like I’ll be a little later coming back . Save me some lunch if you can”

When I hadn’t heard from him by 4pm, I started texting and calling. At dark we started looking into tracing the GPS in his iPhone. He did not have Find My Phone enabled & there was no information we could get without a court order, or a missing persons report (which we can’t file until he’s been gone 72 hours.)"

This one makes me very nervous for this man. Not only is there the possibility he got lost and either succumbed to the elements, had an accident or met with a wild animal, there is the possibility he met with another type of predator: drug cartels who are protecting stashes, crops, etc hidden in a remote mountain area.

This concerned me too for all the reasons mentioned. So he went alone on the hike, right? But his wife was with him onthe vacation. (?)

From the photos on the Facebook page he seems quite outdoorsy so I think he'd be better equipped for survival than most, but it has been several days now with view few supplies.

Search teams are working to find Simran in the difficult terrain, combing the mountains with rescue dogs as well as a helicopter from Mexico City. The teams are operating without radios that would allow rescue groups to communicate and the helicopter does not have the capability to pull Simran up should it locate him. Rescue efforts were initially hampered by cell phone privacy laws in Mexico that do not allow the cellular carrier, TelCel, to release GPS information from Simran's phone. TelCel and Simran's U.S. carrier, T-Mobile, have since released that data.

After a restless night, we’re back at it. This morning we will have infrared capability in the helicopter along with thousands of images of the search area from small non military drones. These are provided by a local company Skybotica.

T-Mobile has released all of the data they have from Hari Simran’s phone. Unfortunately, his GPS was turned off. Now we are trying to work with specialists to triangulate his location during his last messages using cell towers.

i just checked the temps for that area and today is a high of 74, low of 50 and the temps will keep going up, so at least he won't be subjected to extreme temps! if he hasn't experienced a fatal accident, my hope is that his spiritual knowledge and ability to find inner peace will keep him going until he's found.

We have delegates visiting from the US Embassy and the FBI in Mexico. They are unable to pull in American resources without a direct request. Ultimately we need the Mexican government to supply us with what is needed to find Hari Simran.

The Embassy has our attention and they are here on the ground.
SkyBotica is a local company in Morelos that employs UAV among other technologies. Their mission is to bring technology for peace to Morelos and Mexico. They are also providing our infrared capabilities. They found two heat signatures in crevasses that could be leads. We’re sending two expert climbing teams in by helicopter.
We now have one helicopter that has pickup and drop capabilities
The Federal Government is sending us a one of the commanders of the Federal Police. He will establish a command center on the ground.
We are seeking to employ a professional search and rescue group from the US.
