A candlelight vigil will be held tonight for two homeless men who died on city streets during a cold snap in Toronto last week.

On the morning of Jan. 5, a homeless man was found dead in a parked delivery truck near a shipping yard in the area of Davenport Road and Wiltshire Avenue. Temperatures had plummeted to around -10 C that night. Less than 24 hours later, another homeless man was found without vital signs in a streetcar shelter near Yonge-Dundas square. Police said the man was only wearing a T-shirt and blue jeans when he was discovered and according to paramedics, he appeared to have suffered cardiac arrest and hypothermia. He was pronounced dead in hospital a short time later".

Another very cold night.

"A man has died after being found without vital signs inside a bus shelter in downtown Toronto.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, was found in a bus shelter on Dundas Street, west of Yonge street, around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday"

He was probably there most of the night. I wonder how many people walked right by him and didn't see or care that he was wearing only a T-shirt and jeans. Bus shelters should post a number to call if you see a homeless person sheltering there when it's too cold.

This is so very sad
Makes me realize how fortunate most of us are, and we still complain

The man has not yet been identified, but LE believe he is in his 50's.

“We haven’t gotten a 100% confirmation of his identity. We believe we know who he is and we’re trying to confirm through next of kin.”

Brinn said he couldn’t say how long the homeless man had been there as “this is a fire scene and there’s a lot of damage. Whatever he was using to heat the shelter with caught on fire.”

In tough times such as these, we are all but one step, be it a divorce, job loss, injury, etc. from this.

Life is fragile and precious.
