"Liang Jin search underway on Vancouver's North Shore Mountains"

"This is a very concerning call for us and we're going to do everything we can to expedite finding this individual," said Mike Danks of North Shore Rescue.

"It's [an] unfortunate circumstance when we get notification this late in the game and we have weather conditions like we have now."
Closed trail among the hikes Jin researched

A police search of Jin's computer and internet search history found he'd been researching hiking locations in Vancouver's North Shore mountains — but investigators emphasize Jin may have gone somewhere else."

"The first day in a search for Vancouver’s 21-year old Lian Jin by North Shore Rescue has turned up nothing.

Team leader Mike Danks says they searched as much as they could in daylight hours.

“We had crews up in the Hanes Valley area – there’s about eighteen inches of snow back there. There are avalanche conditions back there so it is hazardous for our members. We really focused on high probability areas that were in the safer zone.”

Danks says the search came about after searching the history on Jin’s computer."

"North Shore Rescue is seeking help from hikers after reports of a possible sighting of Liang Jin on the Howe Sound Crest trail near Cypress ski resort on New Year's Eve.

Team leader Mike Danks said Wednesday that they received a tip from a person that a couple had indicated they ran into a male hiker at about 9:30 p.m. that evening".

Police resuming search for missing hiker Liang Jin"

"Have you seen Liang Jin? Call 9-1-1 immediately.
    Vancouver Police handout

After calling off the search for missing hiker Liang Jin this morning, police say they are resuming their efforts in trying to find the 21-year-old."

    http://www.northshorerescue.com/2015...ion-liang-jin/

"Police believe that Liang may have taken a bus from downtown Vancouver to the North Shore mountains, with specific interest in Lynn Headwaters and the Hanes Valley. As such, NSR has been activated to conduct search operations in the Lynn Headwaters, Hanes Valley, and Grouse areas, as weather permits.

We are asking the public to please report any sightings of the Liang Jim to police through 911. While the investigation has indicated a significant possibility of the North Shore, he may be elsewhere. If you have seen him, or think you may have, please contact police immediately as any information is critical.

We also ask that you share this information and his photo with any of your friends, family, acquaintances who may have been hiking (anywhere in Metro Vancouver) since December 31st."

"North Shore Rescue says there’s nothing more they can do for lost hiker Liang Jin unless someone from the public comes forward with new information.

Jin hasn’t been heard from since Dec. 31 when he texted his father to say he was going hiking. Police later found that Jin had been researching trails on the North Shore.

“As it stands right now, we did a very extensive search of the Hanes Valley area. We had 30-plus searchers in the field. We had two aircraft and we really flooded that area in the high-probability spots and we also covered off some likely areas where people get lost on Grouse, Seymour and Cypress, and we didn’t have any luck,” said Mike Danks, NSR team leader".

"Liang Jin’s family said in a statement they would like to thank North Shore Rescue and Vancouver Police from the bottom of their heart for the attempts to rescue Leon with all the best they can.

Despite not being able to find Jin, the family remains optimistic saying they remain with great hope that Leon is out there, and that his faith will help guide him home".

Liang Jin's body found on North Shore mountains

Liang Jin's body was found by his family in the Hanes Valley in North Vancouver's Lynn Headwaters Regional Park, authorities say.

"On Feb. 16, 2015, continued search efforts by family and friends led to the discovery of Mr. Jin in a boulder field in the Hanes Valley," said the B.C. Coroners Service in a statement.
