NM - Taos Co., Female in shallow grave, Two Peaks, Dec'14 - Roxanne Houston

    http://www.taosnews.com/news/article...8e2fd874a.html

Elizabeth Hagerty said she was walking with her husband, Robert, and their two dogs when one canine began rolling on what appeared to be a burnt part of a brassiere. The dogs proceeded to a hole nearby which they began digging up on command from the couple, unearthing a bone less than three inches beneath the rocky soil...

The remains were still decomposing and flesh was still attached to the bone, she noted. The ground, which appeared to have been disturbed by animals, also seemed to have been burned around the shallow hole, further raising their suspicions...

A physical description — the woman’s age, height and weight — were not immediately available. It was also unclear when the body was buried, he added, suggesting the remains could have been there for two years but that it was likely not a decades-old gravesite... The remains are expected to be sent to a forensics laboratory in Texas for additional examination as well as possible identification through a national DNA and dental record database. Investigators are also examining missing persons databases, Hogrefe said.

I can't believe the sheriff's office just left the remains there for 2 days after taking the femur and bra. Is that normal?

Little less than 2 hours away. They say she was taken by her ex.

Buried remains found in the Carson area Christmas Day have been identified as those of a Colorado woman, the Taos County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday (Jan. 19). Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe did not name the woman but said she had ties to Taos.

A preliminary report from the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator indicates the woman died of a traumatic wound to the head, Hogrefe told The Taos News. The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate her death as a homicide, he said. Investigators have identified two persons of interest, Hogrefe added.

They are not releasing the name yet because of the homicide investigation.

I looked through the Charley Project and Namus for missing women with connections to both states. There are several from the 80's and 90's and I figured since it said not decades, that was too old.

These two mention a New Mexico connection, though they're both probably a bit too far back.

Linda Law was last seen in 2002 in South Dakota, but she was a wanderer who had lived in both Colorado and New Mexico: http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/l/law_linda.html.

Rhonda Hendrichsen was last seen in Glenwood Springs CO in 2007. She was supposedly heading to New Mexico. https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/25324/16/

Others missing recently from Colorado--I went back roughly five years.

    Summer Larned-Duran (endangered runaway)
    Nicole Silvers (16, emancipated minor)
Ambreen Amjad (Pakistani tourist with schizophrenia)
Autumn Cerenil-Lee (may have been seen last in Cheyenne WY)
Kelsie Schelling (probably murdered in Pueblo http://blogs.denverpost.com/coldcase...denver-8/8543/)
    Kara Nichols (Model Mayem connection)
    Maria Emeterio (endangered runaway)
Patricia Wallace (lost while hiking, which makes her less likely)
    Kim Remmel (animal rights activist)
    Charlene Cramer (missing homeless)
    Angelica Sandoval (foul play suspected)
    Deborah Heriford (foul play suspected)
    Sandra Patterson (almost no info)
Opinions expressed are strictly my own (who else would they belong to???)

Interesting. I wonder if January 2014 is long enough for the circumstances.

A couple more for the not likely list -

Dorothy Jenkins went missing while camping as reported by her male companion, but there might be some doubt. It's not clear.
CO - Dorothy Jenkins, 57, Burnt Mountain, 17 August 2014

And a double check - There is evidence that Lea's body is in a CO landfill, correct?

Rhonda has a bit more of a connection to NM than NamUs indicates. I located one article online about her and the possible sighting of her in Parachute, CO.

Freaky Factoid: The BTK killer taunted police in Wichita for years with cryptic letters riddled with poor grammar and spelling. So much so, in fact, that this particular trait became a part of popular culture among Wichita residents.
One ordinary day, a woman teased her husband, who had always had trouble with spelling, that "[his] spelling is as bad as BTK's." Weeks later, her husband, Dennis Rader, would recount that story to police in an interrogation room, following his arrest for the BTK murders.

Authorities in northern New Mexico say a 50-year-old man is wanted in the killing of a woman (33-year-old Roxanne Houston) last summer. Taos County Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe said an arrest warrant charges Ivan Denning Cales Jr. with first-degree murder.

Hogrefe said Cales is a homeless drifter. The sheriff said he can't release details on the killing until Cales is in custody. Cales is described as 6-foot-2 and about 210 pounds. He reportedly walks with a cane and hunched over sometimes due to back problems.

“We do not believe that Cales is still in the Taos area and have asked the U.S. Marshals Service to take the lead for the manhunt,” Hogrefe said, indicating the search will stretch across state lines. Cales is originally from West Virginia, the sheriff confirmed.
