Floyd “Andy” Parrish Jr., is missing after a visit to Athens, Georgia.

I'm a little confused about this case, so I'll try to piece this story together:

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department in Georgia and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office both say the case is not in their jurisdiction. Athens police said they were told by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office that they found the truck and would tow it. Jacksonville police said they were not investigating the missing-person case.

Athens police said they wrote the missing-person report as a courtesy and learned that he was last seen not in Georgia, but at home in Interlachen. Putnam authorities said they are aware of the person who saw Parrish but have not been asked to question them. Athens Sgt. Brad Collinsworth said they want Putnam investigators to interview that person.

Andy Parrish worked at Publix for 22 years before leaving there in 2011 to pursue becoming a security guard. He has been working in Gainesville and commuting from a house he bought in Putnam during the past year.

He went to Athens Dec. 26 to visit family, including his brother, the pastor of Green Acres Baptist Church there. He apparently asked another person to watch his property while he was gone. Andy Parrish left Georgia Friday morning, then called his brother just before 6 p.m. to say he was in Gainesville and heading home.

Later that evening, Charles Parrish (Andy's brother) was called by a co-worker of his brother’s who said Andy Parrish was in trouble with some people and had taken $15,000 and some guns to meet someone. The caller later said the amount may have been $28,000, according to the Athens police report. He also was told there was a woman involved. “That doesn’t wash with anyone I’ve talked to,” Charles Parrish said. “He never said anything to anyone about a girl in Jacksonville.”

Charles Parrish said he later learned Duval County had recovered his brother’s Ford. An eyewitness told police they saw someone park the Explorer then get out and get in a truck and leave. “The next morning the witness wakes up and the car is still there.”

Andy Parrish had an extensive gun collection, his brother said, including a safe full of about 100 weapons, including AK-47, M-14s and 9mm handguns. “I only know of three or four times in 20 years that he sold a gun,” Charles Parrish said. He said no one yet has checked the gun safe in his brother’s home to see if the weapons are missing.

“It might be empty as far as I know,” he said.

His older brother, Charles Parrish, said Wednesday that Putnam detectives were at his brother’s house in Interlachen from about 5 p.m. Tuesday until 3 a.m. Wednesday and were back out there later Wednesday.

He said investigators had contacted the seller of a safe that his brother bought several years ago to get the combination to open it to determine if the gun collection was still inside.

Andy Parrish was last seen wearing a black motorcycle jacket, blue jeans and black boots.

Investigation into Putnam man's disappearance shifts from Georgia to Florida

Eight to 10 Putnam County detectives are investigating the disappearance of an Interlachen man after taking the case from Athens, Ga., where the 46-year-old security guard was last seen by family Friday, according to the agency. The Sheriff’s Office has been involved in the case since Sunday but did not officially take over as the primary agency until late Tuesday or early Wednesday, said sheriff’s Sgt. Hancel Woods.
“They are finally doing what I have been trying to get them to do for two days,” Charles Parrish said.

Putnam detectives interviewed one of two people who were close to his brother but have not located the second. The Athens police report said one of the individuals may have been an intermediary in the sale of Andy Parrish’s weapons. Athens investigators were told that person spoke with Andy Parrish in Putnam County, possibly Friday. Parrish’s Ford Explorer was found in Jacksonville and apparently abandoned.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit and Florida Department of Law Enforcement Crime Scene Unit found remains they believe to be Floyd Anderson “Andy” Parrish buried in a wooded area in an isolated part of Marion County.

The remains were sent to the Leesburg Medical Examiner's Office for positive identification and to determine a cause of death. Deputies said the discovery of the body was made possible from information received from the ongoing investigation into Parrish's disappearance, which is being investigated as a homicide.

Richard Gertler, 52, was arrested Wednesday and charged with grand theft auto and armed burglary. Both are felonies. The Sheriff's Office said Gertler is also considered a person of interest in the Parrish's disappearance.

Gertler had been house-sitting for Parrish, who he knew through their jobs as security officers. Parrish arrived in Georgia Dec. 26 and was there until Jan. 2 when he left for home.

Detectives interviewed neighbors of Parrish who said on Jan. 2 there were vehicles and men at Parrish’s house between 10 p.m. and midnight.

A man also interviewed by Putnam County Wednesday said he was called to Parrish’s house by Gertler that Friday evening and the two men took the Explorer to Jacksonville and left it there.

Florida authorities mum on manner of death of Athens preacher's brother

Five days after the brother of an Athens preacher was found buried in a remote forest outside Ocala, Fla., authorities have not filed homicide charges nor released how the man was slain.
Gertler “voluntarily came in and spoke with us before the body was discovered about Mr. Parrish being missing,” Woods said. “During the course of the investigation information came to light that led us to the arrest of Mr. Gertler and charge him with the theft of Mr. Parrish’s vehicle and the firearms in the vehicle.”
The investigation then led officers to Parrish’s grave, but Woods declined to say who led them to the location.

Following Gertler’s arrest, investigators released a statement asking anyone who may have purchased a gun from Gertler to come forward. Investigators are not saying if anything happened as a result...

Investigators have also questioned another man who worked in the security business alongside Parrish, who was known to have a collection of more than 150 guns.

Terry Krueger of Melrose, Fla., called Rev. Parrish on Jan. 3 to inform him that his brother was “in trouble” with some people in Florida and was selling some of his guns. Krueger is a former deputy with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, but was “let go” about two years ago.

Arrest warrant reveals grisly murder of Putnam gun collector found in Ocala National Forest
http://jacksonville.com/news/crime/...tors-learn-details-missing-putnam-mans-demise
Details of an arrest warrant paint a grisly picture of greed and death in the last moments of Floyd “Andy” Parrish’s life.
A man Parrish allowed to house-sit his Interlachen home hauled his handcuffed, dead body into the Ocala National Forest after selling several of Parrish’s guns, according to the arrest warrant.
In the warrant, an acquaintance of Gertler’s told detectives he helped haul a large homemade, wooden box that Gertler told him was full of guns to a lake.
The box floated, so the men fished it out. The men then opened the box, revealing Parrish’s dead body with a rope around his neck and his hands cuffed behind his back, according to the warrant. Gertler’s acquaintance told detectives they removed Parrish’s clothes and took the rope and handcuffs off before digging a hole and burying the body, according to the report.
The Times-Union isn’t identifying the other man because he hasn’t been charged and authorities don’t want to risk retaliation as the investigation continues to develop.

1 year ago today, Andy was murdered.

I don't see anything about a trial yet, but did find this from April 15, 2015:

Grand jury indicts man in Putnam County murder
http://www.news4jax.com/news/local/grand-jury-indicts-man-in-putnam-county-murder

Gertler remains in the Alachua County Jail on previously filed charges of auto theft, grand theft and burglary. He will be formally charged with first-degree murder and will be brought to Putnam County for trial.

"He was such a kind person who never even said a mean word about somebody. So of course, not that a murder is ever justified, but to think somebody would be so horrible and do this to him was just beyond belief and we wouldn't have been able to make it through this time without our faith in Jesus," said BS, Parrish's cousin.

Putnam County inmate awaiting murder trial dies in custody

http://jacksonville.com/news/crime/2016-08-05/story/putnam-county-inmate-awaiting-murder-trial-dies-custody

A 54-year-old inmate who was arrested in 2015 and was facing a murder charge in Putnam County died in custody July 25 after a medical issue, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

A corrections officer called paramedics after realizing Richard Glenn Gertler was having difficulty breathing that night, Capt. Joe Wells said. He said Gertler was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Gertler was indicted on a first-degree murder charge in April 2015, three months after Interlachen resident Floyd “Andy” Parrish’s body was found.

Gertler was scheduled to appear in court Aug. 12, according to court records.
