GUILTY MI - Dennis McPherson, 71, brutally murdered, Muskegon, 9 Jan 2015

The Muskegon County Prosecutor's Office has charged the grandson of 71-year-old homicide victim Dennis Robert McPherson with lying to police about where he was when McPherson was killed. An arrest warrant was issued Monday morning, Jan. 12, against Trent Michael Humphreys-McPherson, 25, of Muskegon on a charge of lying to a peace officer conducting a violent-crime investigation, a felony. He's charged as a third-time habitual offender, which makes the maximum possible penalty eight years in prison...

Sanford called Humphreys-McPherson a "person of interest" in the homicide but stopped short of calling him a suspect. He said police were awaiting results of Michigan State Police Crime Lab tests of forensic evidence before moving forward with any potential suspects.

According to the police chief's summary of Crawford's second statement, she drove her boyfriend to McPherson's house around 1:30 a.m. Jan. 9. Humphreys-McPherson intended to borrow money from his grandfather "again," she allegedly told police. Crawford said Humphreys-McPherson entered the house and came out about a half-hour later "visibly shaken" and carrying a flat-screen TV, according to Sanford. Crawford said she never entered the house.

Crawford was charged last week with two counts in the aftermath of the Jan. 9 bludgeoning death of Dennis Robert McPherson, 71, in his Muskegon Township home in the first block of South Dangl Road.

In that case, she's charged with lying to a police officer in a violent-crime investigation, a four-year felony, and accessory after the fact to the felony of home invasion, a five-year felony. Her bond was set at $30,000 cash or surety.
