VA - Vivian Gilbert, 65, Scott County, 14 January 2015

Deputies, rescue dogs search for missing Scott Co. woman
    SCOTT COUNTY, VA (WJHL) -
Authorities in Scott County are looking for woman after a friend discovered her to be missing from her southwest Virginia home. Jim Benton, captain with the Scott County Sheriff's Office, said Vivian Gilbert, 65, 993 Natural Tunnel Parkway, was reported missing Wednesday morning after a friend arrived to pick her up for a doctor's appointment.

According to investigators, a friend arrived at her house on Natural Tunnel Parkway to take her to the doctor, only to find Gilbert not at home and her door open. The friend reported that upon arrival to Gilbert's residence, the door was open, but Gilbert was not at home. Her purse and cell phone were located inside the house. Both vehicles were also at the residence.

Benton said officials with the Virginia State Police, the Scott County Sheriff's Office, Natural Tunnel State Park officials, Black Diamond Search and Rescue and several tracking and search and rescue dogs are on site assisting in the search for Gilbert.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

If no foul play is suspected, what did she die from? And where was her body found?

I don't understand how her body ended up in the bottom of a rock quarry. She walked out of her house and over to a rock quarry and fell in all by herself???? And she left the house door open?

We don't know what the Dr.'s appointment was for. Maybe she was diagnosed with a devastating disease and opted out. The door may have been left open (it doesn't say wide open, or just unlocked) for her friend.

She could have also been diagnosed with early Alzheimer's or dementia, become confused and fallen in.

Wondering what the COD is as well. I always am interested in the VA cases. I hate to hear about the elderly injured or deceased without explanation.
