On Dec. 20, an Oroville man called the Sheriff's Department because his relatives had not arrived at his home in Berry Creek as they had planned to the day before.

During the investigation, deputies found two people later that day -- eventually identified as Peter "Mike" Kroencke and his wife, Olga Kroencke -- dead inside a vehicle on Galen Ridge Road in Berry Creek, officials said...

GD Hendrix is a person of interest in the killings of the Kroencke couple.

A court hearing has been continued for a Berry Creek man facing weapons charges after a house was searched as part of a homicide investigation. Defendant GD Hendrix, 44, and his mother, Lotta Hendrix, 67, may enter initial pleas during their next appearance in Butte County Superior Court in two weeks, according to defense attorneys. Both defendants are charged with possession of an explosive device. GD Hendrix faces five additional weapons charges.

GD Hendrix was allegedly heavily armed when he was arrested Jan. 6. Lotta Hendrix was arrested later that evening.

Investigators reportedly found firearms and an explosive device from the defendants’ Galen Ridge Road house. The house had been searched as part of the investigation into the Dec. 19 deaths of Peter “Mike” and Olga Kroencke.

At the time of his arrest, GD Hendrix had an AK-47-style semiautomatic assault rifle loaded with a 30-round magazine strapped to his back, a loaded .22 caliber revolver on his waist and a loaded .223 caliber hunting pistol draped over his right arm, sheriff’s officials said. He also had a concealed dagger and brass knuckles around his neck, they said.

GD Hendrix was booked into the Butte County Jail in Oroville on suspicion of multiple firearms offenses, including possession of an assault rifle, possession of methamphetamine, and being armed in the commission of a felony. He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

December 2015:

One year later, suspect in Plumas double murder hasn't been charged

http://www.plumasnews.com/story/2015/12/16/news/one-year-later-suspect-in-plumas-double-murder-hasnt-been-charged/595.html

One year ago a Cromberg husband and wife, Mike and Olga Kroencke, were found shot to death near their vacation home in the foothills northeast of Oroville.

To date, no one has been charged with murdering the Kroenckes.

The only suspect, 45-year-old GD Hendrix of Berry Creek, is in a state mental hospital.

Hendrix, who lived near the Kroenckes' second home in Berry Creek, was arrested on drug and weapons charges Jan. 6, more than two weeks after the Kroenckes were killed.

Butte County sheriff's spokesperson Miranda Bowersox said the case remains under investigation and confirmed Hendrix is still the only suspect. "Other than that, we don't have any additional details to release," Bowersox said last week. "We are working with the Department of Justice on the case."
