A Dorchester man is facing charges that he took three teenage girls from Massachusetts to Rhode Island and held them against their will for prostitution, officials said on Friday. Derek Miranda, 21, was arrested on Thursday night in Providence, where he allegedly confined the girls, two age 14 and one 15, for at least several hours, police said. No information was released on where in Massachusetts the girls were from.

Miranda is charged with kidnapping and sex trafficking and remained in custody in Providence on Friday, police said. He is scheduled to be arraigned early next week in Providence District Court. It was not known if he had retained a lawyer. Providence police said in a statement that Miranda allegedly took the girls to Rhode Island to be used as prostitutes.
