American Surfer Vanishes While Camping on Cliff in Mexico: Friends
A 20-year-old college student camping and surfing in Mexico with friends is missing and his family believes he fell to his death last week from a cliffside campsite near Rosarito Beach.

Scott Robert Fippinger, a junior at Californis State university San Marcos, was camping along a cliff with three friends when he got up and left the tent around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

His friends remember seeing his cellphone light go on and assumed he got up to go to the bathroom, said his father, Eric Fippinger.

When they awoke the next morning, he was not in his sleeping bag.

The group was camping at a place called Chuie's near the 52 kilometer marker on Highway 1 next to a steep cliff with about a 40-foot drop.

There were gusty winds that night and Fippinger may have been blown over the side, his father said. His phone was found by the cliff's edge and a piece of cloth that may have been from his pajamas was found on a piece of rebar that was part of a short makeshift fence.

"We are assuming that he went over the cliff, into the ocean and got swept out by the tide," his father said.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

Oh gosh...how heartbreaking...his dad was the person to find him.

Good that he had the resources to hire a private plane to search.

RIP Scott and blessing to his family.
