NY - John Kambakakis, 63, Staten Island, 28 January 2015

    John Kambakakis

Dongan Hills woman concerned after 63-year-old dad goes missing
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Kristina Kambakakis of Dongan Hills says she hasn't seen or heard from her 63-year-old father since Wednesday morning -- which is very unusual.

Her father, John Kambakakis, was last seen around 8 a.m. Wednesday morning, outside the 7-Eleven on Seaview Avenue and Hylan Boulevard, near the family's home on Cromwell Avenue, wearing a gray jacket with blue jeans. Ms. Kambakakis says her father likes to take walks around the neighborhood, but will always call to notify her, or her sister, whenever he leaves the house, of exactly where he's going, and when he'll be back.

Kambakakis is in good health, and has never disappeared before, his daughter said. He lives with his two daughters, while the rest of his family lives in Greece, leaving him with nowhere else to reside, according to Ms. Kambakakis.

"Dad, we love you, we want you to come home, we hope you're okay," she said. "We're asking everyone to please say a prayer."

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

The search for a missing Dongan Hills man continued Sunday, as family and friends joined members of the Port Richmond Community Emergency Response Team to help find John Kambakakis, who was last seen Wednesday...

Kambakakis' daughter, Kristina Kambakakis, was able to track his Metro PCS flip-phone by satellite, which directed a smaller search party to Foster Road, Edgegrove Avenue and Bloomingdale Park, in Huguenot — but still, no signs of John or the flip-phone.

"It's still a complete mystery," Ms. Kambakakis said of her father's sudden disappearance.

I feel like we're not being told something about his (mental)health? Maybe it's just me, but the wording in the article seems weird.

nycgrl..........I agree........there are a couple of pieces missing that have not been made public.......or maybe the wording seems odd b/c English is not the first language of the family?? Just a thought.
Is there proof he was seen outside 7-11?? I assume there are security cameras all over the store--inside and out.

I think it struck me as somewhat odd that he notifies his daughters whenever he leaves the home for a walk. Kind of made me think that he was in the early stages of dementia or something.

ahhh, finally we can talk about it ....

Police believe he was carrying a large amount of money on him when he went missing, due to a Super Bowl pool he ran.

A retired janitor who collected up to $25,000 running Super Bowl betting pools on Staten Island this year has vanished — and cops think he may have taken off with the dough.
John Kambakakis, 63, was last seen in Brooklyn five days before the big game — and one of his final stops was at Staten Island University Hospital, where he used to work, to pick up some last-minute bets. “The guy has a gambling problem and could possibly have hit the road with the Super Bowl money,” a law-enforcement source said.

The family didn’t notify cops that the widower was missing until 24 hours later because they thought he might be at one of his favorite hangouts — Atlantic City — or with a girlfriend.

Rumors swirled that he might have skipped the country and headed to his homeland, Greece.

Not knowing this man, etc...taking off with a wad of cash does seem more likely than getting killed/kidnapped for it, just statistically and just Imo...but surely LE can find out if he used a passport.
    Just my opinion, of course.
