OH - Raymond “Ashley” Lane, 15, Ohayocon in Columbus, 31 January 2015

    Raymond “Ashley” Lane

Columbus Police Searching For Missing Transgender Teen
A family vacation at Ohayocon has ended in panic. Transgender teen Raymond “Ashley” Lane, 15, was last seen Saturday night at an Ohayocon rave held at the Columbus Convention Center. Karalea Lane, Ashley's mother says, "The con is what we do. We save up through the year. This is our weekend event. It's home."Karalea adds, “When he (Ashley) didn't show up between 10 and 12, that's when I contacted police because that's when I knew he was missing."

More than a day and a half later, the search continues. Ashley's parents said something just does not add up. Denver Karshner, Ashley's step father, showed NBC4 everything Ashley left behind in the hotel room. "Here's gloves in here, his makeup bag, t-shirt, jeans, hairbrush and all his winter clothes." The transgender teen's parents worry about his safety. Karshner explained, “"You know, I worry about violence. I worry about someone beating my child to death."
Ashley's parents are holding out hope, but beginning to fear the worst.

I attended this con and I can assure you all that there are many, many people searching for her. So far there are no updates, I'm praying so hard that she gets home safely.
I'm actually a girl despite the username ;D

    RIP Edward.

I think Ashley's Mom was being very realistic in that a person with a male body dressed in that costume may elicit trouble from someone who is not accepting....of which, there are many.

Transgender or not, I do not think a rave is a safe environment for any 15 year old unless there is a an adult present to moderate as necessary. Regardless, it is good to hear there are lots of people looking for Ashley. Tell them to blast her disappearance on FB and other social media.

Prayers for Ashley and her sweet parents.

Ashley's mom says her daughter was last spotted in the center's food court with a man in a gray hooded sweatshirt.

The family organized a citywide search tonight.

    http://www.fox45now.com/shared/news/...id_24548.shtml

They say Saturday night Ashley left their room at the Hampton Inn and Suites and walked across High Street to the Convention Center for a dance party from 10 p.m. until 2:30 a.m. That was the last they heard from her.

On Sunday, they called Columbus Police.

    [snip]

The parents say until they find their child, they're staying right here. "What I believe about my child is she's smart, but she wants to be accepted,” said Lane. “And I am very, very worried."

Ashley is 15-years-old, six feet tall with a slender build, brown eyes, and magenta-colored hair. Her parents say she was wearing a red Ohayocon wrist band with the number 06738.

Investigators tell us they are looking at surveillance footage from nearby cameras for clues. Anyone with information is asked to call Columbus Police.

Anime con raves are not exactly like your normal raves with ecstasy and stuff. They're very tame. Most anime cons take place in hotels so they have to follow all the hotel's rules, which tend to be pretty strict.

She was last seen wearing ballet shoes, nylon stockings, a short black and white dress, as well as a red Ohayocon wrist band with the number 06738.

"This person with a boy body is in ballet shoes, nylon stockings, and a black and white dress from Alice in Wonderland. And, that just says victim to me," Karalea Lane said.

What are "cons" Concerts/raves? I have heard the term frequently among teens/early 20 somethings and don't know what they are.

I think the Mom is right, for sure. That said, anyone (transgender or not) wearing this type of an outfit would certainly get attention (and not necessarily good attention).

I think "cons" is short for conventions.

Ohayocon is a three day anime convention held during January/February in Columbus, Ohio at the Hyatt Regency Columbus and Columbus Convention Center. Ohayocon's name is from the similarity between "Ohio", the convention's location, and Ohayou (おはよう?), which in the Japanese language means "Good morning".

O.K., so pardon my aging ignorance, what is the whole "anime" thing? I have heard drastically different definitions from cartoonish fantasy to fairly vulgar explanations. What was this con all about? Thanks in advance for enlightening old Aunt Roses.

That being said, prayers continue for Ashley. I hope her parents will have the opportunity to establish some new rules and boundaries. So many of these threads end up sadly, let's hope this one has a happier ending. Ashley, where are you?

    new photos released:

“We're still reviewing video footage from convention center and trying to track down additional footage. Most of that video footage has to be viewed in real time, and because there's such a large number of people there, it really is like looking for a needle in a haystack. So we're looking at it frame by frame-by-frame,” said Lt. Mark Gardner, CPD.

Anime is just Japanese animation. Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Speed Racer, for example. At anime conventions people basically dress up like their favorite characters and attend panels, buy merchandise, get autographs from voice actors, etc. I've been to Ohayocon before and it's crowded, but pretty tame. Like others have said, the "rave" is basically like a school dance, but with somewhat older people in attendance.
