    FL - David Sherman, 67, Venice, 7 February 2015

    http://www.heraldtribune.com/article...KING/150209714

Sherman was last seen at Lucaya Avenue at 1 p.m. Saturday. Sherman’s girlfriend, Peggy Perkins, reported him missing later that day. His wallet, cell phone and glasses were on the counter.

The police are unaware of any domestic, financial or medical issues that could be related to Sherman leaving his home and not returning.

Sherman was elected to the Venice City Council in 2011 and lost his re-election bid in November to Deborah Anderson.

Venice Police say Dave Sherman was last seen at his home on Saturday afternoon, and has not been seen since.

And wherever he went off to, he didn't take anything with him.

Family say he left behind his car, his bike, his cell phone and even his wallet.

He didn't even take any clothes. He's simply gone.

Neighbor Roger Lawson said, "That seems very peculiar. That makes us convinced that something untoward has happened, and we're very concerned about it."

Early Monday afternoon, a group of Venice police detectives paid a visit to Sherman's home, combing for clues.

Within minutes they sped off to a nearby park and brought out a K9 unit to search the area.

I don't know about the rushing off to a park thing. But there's a canal behind his house. Perhaps he fell into the water. Did it say where he was headed at 1 p.m.? It seems odd that someone would see him at that time but have no idea where he went.

Sherman had plans to pick up paint from the city's Sherwin-Williams store and then mow his lawn, Perkins said. She did not know of any plans he had to go anywhere else.

At about 9:05 a.m. Sherman left a message on a friend's phone. He told the man he had picked up the paint, Perkins said.

Perkins said she called Sherman at about 2 p.m., but he didn't pick up. She tried unsuccessfully three more times before going to his house close to 6 p.m.

I wonder what LE found in the home to cause them to rush to the park with a K9? Also, I wonder why he called this man to tell him he had the paint? That seems kind of weird if he was just using the paint for personal reasons; if he was getting the paint for a renter or for someone else/another project, it would make more sense to me.

“He is straight forward, very outgoing,” said Venice city councilman Kit McKeon. “He likes people.” He last saw Sherman and his girlfriend Friday night. They watched the sunset. On Saturday, he sent his friend a text. “You usually heard back, say within a half hour, so to not hear from he or Peggy Saturday afternoon was odd,” said McKeon. Venice police said Sherman was last seen at his home off Lucaya Avenue on Saturday around 1 p.m.

So the girlfriend was the last person to 'see' him before she left his house for work at a hospital shortly before or around 7AM. Something here is amiss. Especially because LE K9 are only brought in if there is enough evidence existent for a scent to follow. JMO there is (are) a LOT more details available than detectives are saying and probably have persons of interest under surveillance. The puzzle pieces are all there and we'll have to wait this one out. I truly hope he's located, unharmed, however, gut instincts say something else happened.

Im sure it's easy enough to tell if he did go get paint from credit card statements and or surveillance at the paint store. I wonder if his friend was going to help him paint.

"[It’s] devastating,” says Peggie Perkins, talking about her longtime boyfriend David Sherman. “This is not his norm, he would have not just wondered off." "It’s as if he just walked away or somebody took him away," she adds.

I am a real estate broker, and know this neighborhood. The nearby water canal is a neighborhood drainage "pond". It would be deep enough to drown in the middle, but he would have to wade through shallow water to the center, and it is surrounded by houses.

Sherman had no visitors to his home that day after his girlfriend left for work. Bloodhounds owned by the DeSoto County Sheriff's Office searched for Sherman's scent in the parks and woods near his home ... the dogs found nothing.

Investigators also are in the process of checking Sherman's financial records for any clues on where he might be or why he might have vanished. If no evidence or leads emerge, police will likely finish their investigation by the end of this week.
