CA - Anthony Parnell, 18, Laguna Beach. 8 February 2015A teenager set to begin Army training this summer was still missing Monday after being swept into a hole in a rocky outcropping by a big wave near Thousand Steps Beach on Sunday afternoon.
Anthony Parnell, 18, of Las Vegas had gone to the beach with three friends. Once there, they set out to explore a nearby cave at the south end of Thousand Steps. They passed through the cave and headed to a rock feature surrounding natural and man-made tide pools. Thatís when a large wave slammed into the teen. When it receded, he was nowhere to be found.
Chief Jason Young of OC Lifeguards said Parnell may have been swept into a hole and could be lodged in a labyrinth of rocks below. Waves were pounding the outcropping Sunday, with 4- to 8-foot sets making the area extremely dangerous.

“They did everything they could today,” he said. Orange County lifeguards and the sheriff’s department harbor patrol will continue to keep watch in case something washes up on the shore.
Parnell said the family will return to the valley in the next few days.
