Police are investigating the death of a person found in a Tacoma ravine.

A citizen reported seeing a possible body about 1 p.m. Sunday below Delin Street, south of South Tacoma Way, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.

Officers recovered it Monday, she said, because the hillside was treacherous and it was dark and raining when it was found. Officers secured the area overnight until the body could be reached, Cool said.

A man whose body was found at the bottom of a steep ravine in Tacoma was reported missing in October after he never showed up for class at Pierce College.

Jesus Isidor-Mendoza, 19, was last seen the morning of Oct. 22 as he left his mom’s Lakewood home. She reported him missing days later when he didn’t show up for class or return home.

Although the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office has not determined how Isidor-Mendoza died, police are investigating the case as a homicide.

A man was booked into the Pierce County Jail on Friday for investigation of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of a teenager whose body was found in a Tacoma ravine earlier this week.

Police spokeswoman Loretta Cool released no details of the arrest, saying they would have to wait until the alleged killer appears in court next week. Court records indicate he is in his 40s and has a history of drug-related convictions.

Wallace Jackson, 48; Crystal Jackson, 30; and Darrel Daves, 49, are to be arraigned in Pierce County Superior Court on Thursday afternoon. They were arrested over the weekend in the slaying of Jesus Isidor-Mendoza, whose remains were discovered in a Tacoma ravine last week.

Court records indicate Isidor-Mendoza was raped, drowned in a bucket and his body cut in half some time around Oct. 22... The teenager’s remains there were stuffed into a duffle bag and dumped in a ravine near the 3000 block of South Delin Street in Tacoma.

What kind of a dispute over what kind of drugs leads to male rape, drowning and dismemberment?

I could actually see a shooting or the like in a drug debt or turf rivalry, but ALL OF THAT???

March 2015:

The local media has been using a portrait of Mendoza which appears to be a mug shot, which portrays him as a deliquent. Friends and family members are appauled by the gruesome details of Mendoza’s horrific death and wish to remember his legacy by those who lives he touched.
“He’s what I call a jellybean, hard on the outside but soft on the inside. Never failed to put a smile on someone’s face.” Nidia Ortiz-Cotton, Mendoza’s friend, said. “I remember how we would always get in trouble in class back in middle school. He may be gone but will forever live in our hearts.”...

“He was the sweetest person I knew.” Miriam Alvarez, friend and church member, said. “I first met him at church. He was always smiling, laughing at everything, as someone everyone loved being around, whether you saw him at the store or at an event.”

A woman accused of orchestrating a gruesome Tacoma murder argues she held up her end of a deal with prosecutors...

But prosecutors say she lied about details, including whether she knew the victim and where he was killed. That testimony led to a mistrial for her codefendants...

Wallace Jackson pleaded guilty following the mistrial and was sentenced to 43 months.

Pierce County prosecutors Wednesday dropped a murder charge against 52-year-old Darrel Arthur Daves in the death of Jesus Isidor-Mendoza.

Instead, Daves pleaded guilty to witness tampering, and Superior Court Judge Stephanie Arend gave him a five-year sentence...

Jackson was the only known witness to the killing, and the only other direct evidence was Daves’ confession to a fellow Pierce County Jail inmate, Ausserer wrote.

With calling Jackson to testify not being an option, that means there isn’t enough evidence to support the murder charge...

Crystal Jackson’s case is still pending.
