Hi, Rich. I believe so. At least that was the impression I got from reading these articles. I searched for earlier news items, but was unable to locate any from the time of the murder.

Victimiology assessment on the victim, I feel will probably reveal a lead

9 times out of 10 when we see, a estranged victim, killed in their own residence, especially a young victim, where the murder weapon originated from within the residence itself, you are dealing with an intimate, former intimate, friend or acquaintance

This is especially true especially in cases, where sexual assault or attempted sexual assault is NOT present, or if its staged to look like sexual assault

However with an open door it could be anyone

That's where Motive comes in ... why?

multiple stab wounds , up close and personal "look at me I'm doing this to you "...weapon of opportunity from the residence etc
Look close in this case, it wasn't planned, most likely something got out of control.

Look to see if there were any similar crimes in the area at the time, burglaries, etc... but I don't think one has to far to find who they are looking for

Friends, enemies, intimates, acquaintances.... look there,
