Just on my phone 60 Minutes Bob Simon died Wed evening in a car accident.

This is so sad!!!
Bob Simon was a great correspondent.
He will be missed!!
Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.

The CBS reporter died when the Lincoln Town Car he was riding in crashed with a Mercedes and then lost control and plowed into a pedestrian expansion near 30th Street at about 7 p.m. Cops had to cut off the top of the Lincoln to free Simon and the driver, who, according to a law enforcement sources, was treated for a possible heart attack by EMTs. The driver of the Mercedes said the livery driver was driving erratically. “He swerved into me,” the driver said. “He hit me and he looked like he lost control of the car.”

Simon was taken to St. Luke’s where he died.

Poor Scott Pelley. He was having such a hard time reporting this. Mr. Simon's daughter was a 60 Minutes producer, so this is a double whammy for the CBS News family. My heart goes out to them. Mr. Simon was a great reporter.

I have respected and admired Bob Simon as a man of integrity in a field lacking in the quality, and as a man who had worked his way to the top, not an easy thing to do. He is probably the last of his generation of " on the ground" reporters who weren't coddled or given special treatment while on assignment.

Let us each remember, when we view photos of the wreckage, which is massive, that he was not required to wear a seat belt in the " livery cab", nor was he wearing one.
Please wear your seat/ shoulder belt in a moving vehicle. I think Bob would tell us this today if he could. Just like some of Peter Jennings' last words to us were about not smoking before his tragic death from lung cancer. Prolong your life by doing what you can to be safe.
