AUS - PETER NORRIS DUPAS, 1980's
$1 million reward may solve first murder linked to serial killer Peter Dupas
February 13, 2015
Nino Bucci - Crime reporter for The Age
It was 30 years ago, during a warm and blustery day in Rye, that homicide detectives believe one of Victoria's most depraved serial killers claimed the first of his victims.
On February 13, 1985, Peter Norris Dupas was on pre-release from prison, where he was serving a five-year sentence for attacking four women in Frankston.
Mother-of-four Helen McMahon was sunbaking in sand dunes at Rye back beach, on the Mornington Peninsula.
She probably decided on the secluded spot to escape the wind, and the "perverts" who were said to regularly wander the beach, hoping to ogle topless women.
But detectives believe Dupas found her, nonetheless.
Ms McMahon, 47, was stabbed to death, with multiple wounds to her upper body.
She was found covered in her blood-soaked towel, next to a hat, bag and sunscreen.
Nobody has ever been charged with her death, but it can be revealed that police have applied to increase a reward for information related to the murder from $50,000 to $1 million.
Dupas was on eight days of pre-release leave from prison and is believed to have been in the area at the time. He was released from prison on February 27, 1985.
Four days later, he raped a 21-year-old woman on a beach at Blairgowrie, not far from Rye. He was sent to prison again that June, this time for 12 years, but was released after seven.

I hope someone comes forward with information that will nail Dupas, if he is the culprit. I watched the documentary about Dupas and he's definitely one sick man. He started his depraved acts as a teen, stabbing a young neighbour multiple of times, it's a miracle she survived. He was let off easily and his parents covered for him even though they knew he stabbed the neighbour!!! When a teen attempts/commits a thrill kill, imo, they are beyond help and should be locked up for life!!
