Ouray officials search for missing man
The Ouray County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help in locating a man missing since Feb. 3. It’s uncertain if the man, Jin Benny Junge, a veteran of the Danish military, ever reached Ouray County, Undersheriff Joel Burk said. The missing-person alert is based on a telephone call from Junge’s brother in Denmark saying he had talked about the area, Burk said.

Junge was in the U.S. with friends on vacation, but stayed when they returned home, Burk said.

OURAY COUNTY: Vehicle and body of missing person recovered
A tragic discovery ended the search of Danish traveler Jin Junge when extraction crews recovered his vehicle and body on Thursday. According to a press release from Ouray County Public Information Officer Marti Whitmore, the white Cadillac Escalade — which Junge had rented from Hertz in Los Angeles — left US 550 on a steep area of Red Mountain Pass known as Sullivan’s Gulch. OCSO was able to work with the car rental company and use GPS information from the vehicle in its search efforts. The vehicle was found at the bottom of the canyon and was lodged in the Uncompahgre River. Ouray Mountain Rescue Team discovered the vehicle on Tuesday as they were combing the extensive area of the canyon floor.

It took several days to locate the vehicle. There were no skid marks, side-slip marks or other tire tracks along the highway. Additionally, because the vehicle was white, it was difficult to see it from the highway due to the snow on the canyon floor, the release stated. Investigations into the cause of death are ongoing; however, road conditions have been eliminated as a cause of the incident.

Red Mountain pass is a rather scary drive for those not used to Colorado roads.

The road was closed for hours as they tried to remove the vehicle.
