    Tanzania - Yohana Bahati, 1, albinism, abducted & dismembered, 14 Feb 2015

A frantic, 3-day search for a toddler with albinism who was believed to have been kidnapped for witchcraft purposes, has ended in tragedy. One-year-old Yohana Bati has been found dead a few miles from his home in Chato, near Lake Victoria, Tanzania (East Africa). His limbs had been hacked off. The Red Cross says a complete set of such body parts can fetch around $50,000.

Yohana was taken during a machete attack at his home Sunday, and his mother was wounded fighting to save him. His father, who was nearby at the time, was being questioned yesterday. Two unidentified men have now been arrested.

'At least 74 albino children have been killed this century in Tanzania, where some witchdoctors use albino body parts to make their charms.

Last month the Tanzanian government placed a ban on all witchdoctors in the country. The ban is part of a nationwide operation to clamp down on attacks on people living with albinism.'...

    Rest in peace little Yohana.

1-year-old Albino Found Dead, Missing Arms and Legs in Tanzania
The body of an abducted albino toddler was found severely mutilated in Tanzania. Vice News reports that the victim's family reported him missing over the Valentine's Day weekend and the body was discovered Feb. 17. The one-year-old's legs and arms had been chopped off. The victim was named Yohana Bahati, and it seems as though he was a carefully chosen target. The boy was taken from his mother by an armed gang that demanded his mother turn him over to them. When she tried to fight them, they cut her with a machete. He was found just miles from his home.

'UN human rights chief harshly condemned Thursday the murder and mutilation of an albino toddler in Tanzania, demanding authorities protect albinos, whose body parts are used for witchcraft in the country.

"Violence and discrimination against people with albinism must be halted," UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein said in a statement, condemning "the horrific murder and mutilation of Yohana Bahati." '...

It's sad that these barbaric beliefs are still held in this day and age. This poor child and all the others taken.

Maybe, albino children should be taken out of the country? There must be a solution. Can this witchcraft be severely discredited in some way, shown to be false?

I highly doubt it. People of all types tend to hang on to their beliefs.

Some country needs to offer amnesty to the families who have albino children. And there needs to be outreach, so everybody knows. It sounds like albinism is much more common in Tanzania than the rest of the world.

I remember watching a documentary whoch featured this issue ( think it was one of those Ross Kemp ones for those of you in the UK). The problem is actually so bad now that there are refuge camps set up where families can "deposit" their child to live in safetu

Omg this is so terrible. I can't even imagine living somewhere where I need to fear for the lives of my children based on the color of their skin or the sick religions that locals worship...

Six-year-old Baraka Cosmos was attacked and had his hand hacked off at his home Saturday.

Really need some prosecutions of the people buying and selling these body parts, imo, as well as the attackers.
