GREENVILLE, Pa. - Two year-old Faith Gibson of Greenville doesn't miss a beat literally. Her new heart, which was transplanted one year ago, not only has given her a chance at life, it's forever changed the lives of those who love her most.
"We can watch her grow up as a normal child right now. She is running and playing and doing things we never thought she would be able to do," said Jamie Gibson of Greenville.
Faith was born with a congenital heart defect, a condition that effects eight out of every 1,000 infants. Doctors didn't expect her to survive. They placed her on a transplant list and after 101 days of waiting, she received a heart last year.
Since then, she has been stunning her doctors. She came home on 27 different medications. Now, she is on just three and she is meeting her two year mile stones thanks to her big sister Laci. She also no longer needs physical therapy.
"She has stunned the doctors, I mean completely and totally. I think she is a lot more advanced than they thought she would be," said Nathan Gibson of Greenville.
While Faith has made remarkable strides, her journey hasn't been without some set backs. This fall, Faith was showing signs of rejection. By January, though, she was rejection free and because she is more susceptible to infections, Jamie and Nathan have to keep her at home most of the time.
However, home is where they'd rather be. After living in a hospital for much of Faith's first year of life, there is no greater place for this family to create new memories.
