Concern grows for missing teenager Rebecca Watts
Concern is growing for a 16-year-old girl missing from the Bristol area since last Thursday. Rebecca Watts was reported missing after not returning to her home in St George, Bristol. Officers said it was "out of character" for her not to contact somebody if she had planned not to come home. Addressing his daughter at a police press conference, Rebecca's father Darren Goldsworthy said his daughter was too shy to even pay at a shop till alone and that she was "in no trouble at all". “She would not go and ask for anything or go to a till on her own - she was that kind of girl.

“This is why her disappearing is so out of character for her. "We just want to make sure you are OK," he said.

Rebecca's father Darren Goldsworthy appealed for her to get in touch with the family
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

It is thought she was wearing a blue puffa-style jacket on the day she went missing.

Avon and Somerset Police said searches of nearby parks were "routine" in "high-risk" missing person inquiries.

She went missing with her mobile phone and laptop, the force said.

The family initially thought she had gone out to meet her boyfriend, but when she didn't reply to messages or return home the next day, they called police.

Her phone initially went straight to answer phone, and has now been switched off since Thursday.

    Doesn't sound good

Ive only just seen this today, hope she is safe and well. It is strange that a 16 year old would leave without money, clothes or phone charger. I wonder if she met up with someone.

I am astounded that there are no appeals being circulated on social media as far as I can see.

“What we know is that she was last at her home address on Crown Hill, St George, Bristol, at about 11.15am last Thursday (19/02).

“We know she took her laptop and mobile phone with her – but no clothing or make-up. Nothing to suggest she would be away for several days.

“We are continuing to search the local area, concentrating on open spaces and park areas – this is a routine part of a missing persons search that we always undertake.

“This is to look for anything that Becky might have been dropped.

“We are continuing with our house to house enquiries and I would urge anyone in the local area who has yet to speak to officers to call us immediately.

“Rebecca has a wide range of friends and relatives, some of whom, we have not been able to contact yet.

“We would appeal to them to contact us if Rebecca has been in touch as a matter of urgency.

Teams of officers have also been taking parcels out of the 16-year-old’s Bristol home after she went missing on Thursday.

Becky's dad and stepmum escorted from their home by police to allow thorough search

Becky's dad and stepmum were escorted from their home by police this afternoon so forensics officers could thoroughly comb the property for clues.

Tearful Darren Goldsworthy, 51, and his wife Anjie, 49, handed their large pet dog to neighbours before getting into an unmarked police car.

Officers took Anjie's wheelchair and a bag of belongings to the car and Darren thanked the public for their support.

Before leaving he said: "I'm very grateful for the support from the public.

"The search this afternoon was organised by my brother and I hope lots of people turn out for it. I can't say anything else right now, I have to go."

    Police say this is 'routine'

Seconds after the police car pulled away, two forensics officers entered the semi in St George, Bristol carrying a number of evidence bags.
A female forensics officer began photographing the front of the house from a number of different angles.

Around five plain-clothed officers also entered the home with notepads and clipboards, before closing the door.

A spokeswoman for Avon and Somerset police said removing the parents was 'routine'.

She said: "We've taken them somewhere - they might be going to friends or family - while we are going to be doing searches of the house, as is routine in a missing persons investigation, to find any clues.

"We've already searched her room and parks, and this is extending that to within the house."

Police using climbing equipment at reserve

The search of the home came after a police team with climbing equipment spent a number of hours searching woodland at Troopers Hill nature reserve, 12 miles from her home.

Course providers KTS Training, in Fishponds, Bristol, where Becky is currently studying said teachers had helped police with their investigation.

Programme director Nicola Lace said: "All the staff and learners at KTS Training are very worried about Becky's disappearance, and all we want is for her to be found safe and sound.

"We are all concerned for her welfare and we will be taking part in the walk this afternoon to assist and support her family, friends and our local community.

"We have given over all information we have to the police and we are assisting them as much as possible.

"We would really encourage anyone with any information to please contact the police."
