Paul D. Whisner, 31, was charged with felony rape of a child and other associated charges after police say he sexually assaulted a boy while he was between the ages of 5 and 10.

The charges were waived to Cumberland County Court of Common Pleas on Wednesday during a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Jessica Brewbaker. A formal arraignment is scheduled for June 25.

Carlisle Police charged Whisner after an investigation into the assault which began on Jan. 27. Police said the boy reported that Whisner had sexually and physically assaulted him between July 4, 2008, and July 2, 2014.

Whisner abused the child in Carlisle over a five-year period and threatened he would send the child to military school or "kill" him if the abuse was reported, according to charging documents.

The child reported several instances of the alleged sexual abuse, and, in one instance, said Whisner allegedly struck the child with a belt so hard that it caused the child to black out.
