A North Texas woman accused of suffocating her 11-year-old daughter and then trying to kill herself has been charged with murder.

Norma Jean Roberts' estranged husband found her unconscious and their daughter Kelsey dead when he arrived to pick the girl up on Friday, police said.

Roberts was charged with murder Saturday in the first homicide in more than a decade in the town of about 30,000 located just northeast of Fort Worth, Keller police Lt. Tommy Williams said. Bail was set at $200,000.

Williams said Roberts apparently was motivated by the upcoming divorce and child custody proceedings.

This just makes me sick. My own daughters are close in age. I t4each children this age as well.

I am so upset about it, I can hardly bear to read anything about this child and her mother.

Trial nears in death of Keller girl
KELLER -- The unsigned message had been carved with a knife into the oak dining table at the home Norma Jean Roberts shared with her 11-year-old daughter, Kelsey.

"I can't live with the pain you have caused me & Kelsey. Now she'll always be happy and in one place ..."

Nearby, Kelsey's body was found lying across the open doorway to a bedroom. She was on her back with a sheet tucked around under her arm. Investigators believe she fought her killer...

I may seem to sound mean hearted by saying this, but I am sick and tired of mothers killing their kids then pulling the insanity defense.

Many people live under horrilbe stress and living conditions but would never kill their child.
I feel she did this to get back at her husband. Even if it meant killing herself also.

Former Brady resident Norma Jean Roberts, 50, now of Keller, was recently found guilty of smothering to death her 11-year-old daughter, Kelsey. The incident, which occurred in August 2005, reportedly happened because Mrs. Roberts wanted to get even with her husband while they were going through a bitter divorce....

Charles Bujan of Austin, the third of Robert's four ex-husbands, testified that in 1989 while the couple was going through a divorce, she came to his office and shot at him three times, wounding him in the left arm as he fled from her... She was convicted of an attempted murder charge in that case and was sentenced to 10 years probation...

Roberts must serve at least 40 years of the 80-year sentence before she is eligible for parole.
