ACORN RIDGE -- An autopsy was to be performed this morning on the body of a young Poplar Bluff girl reported missing Sunday by relatives and found about 30 minutes later dead inside a Stoddard County barn.

Although the girl's name is not being released, she is the 12-year-old daughter of Cindy Dowdy of Poplar Bluff, according to Stoddard County Chief Deputy Tommy Horton.

"She came over Friday morning to visit with her aunt and uncle in the Puxico area," Horton explained. "This is very common for them (the girl and her sibling who is the same age).

Police Charge Victim's Relative With Murder
By: Wes Wallace

Stoddard County, MO - On a day when family and friends laid to rest 12-year old Miranda Dowdy, prosecutors charge a man-a close relative-with her murder.

"It's a very heinous crime for anyone to ensure, much less a 12-year old child," says Stoddard County Sheriff Carl Hefner, "We work hard on any case, but when a small child is involved, it's just a type of crime you want to solve as quickly as possible."

Very sad !! I hope this SOB burns for eternity !

OMG. That poor girl and her family. It says that the perp is a relative, but doesn't say what the relation is. Cousin? Uncle? Brother?

Steve Chipman of Acorn Ridge pleaded guilty to reduced charges of second-degree murder and forcible rape in the death of Miranda Dowdy -- Chipman's cousin -- of Poplar Bluff.

"He pleaded guilty to the reduced charges on Monday," said Welborn. "He received 30 years on the murder charge and 30 years on the rape charge."

Those sentences will run consecutively, not concurrently... Chipman will serve 50 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections before he will become eligible for parole.
