The story starts on March 26, 2010 when 56-year-old Darla Kustra didn't show up for work. Three days later her right foot and calf were found on an abandoned train track over Route 57 near Elyria.

"All they found was her leg, there was no sign of any blood or body parts anywhere around the area," explains her brother Gary Kester. "They searched the area with dogs and they didn't find anything."

Kustra walked everywhere she went and it's believed she may have been hit by a car or truck while walking to work between 4:15 a.m. and 5:20 a.m.

Missing woman's severed foot is a 5 year mystery

It's a mystery that remains unsolved five years later. What exactly happened to a Lorain County woman whose severed foot was found days after she went missing?

The story starts on March 26, 2010 when 56-year-old Darla Kustra didn't show up for work. Three days later her right foot and calf were found on an abandoned train track over Route 57 near Elyria.

"All they found was her leg, there was no sign of any blood or body parts anywhere around the area," explained her brother Gary Kester. "They searched the area with dogs and they didn't find anything."

Kustra walked everywhere she went and it's believed she may have been hit by a car or truck while walking to work between 4:15 a.m. and 5:20 a.m.

At the time, Lorain County Sheriff's investigators didn't rule out foul play or that it was an accident.

"It was a very narrow area and it's possible that a truck didn't see her," Kester continues. "It was early in the morning, dark [and] she may have gotten hit by a truck, got caught up into the truck and her body may have traveled with the truck for miles. Part of her body could be laying anywhere around Ohio or someplace else even."

Her brother says he can only speculate about what happened to her. He's hoping by coming forward it will help generate leads.

"We just want to know what happened," said Kester.

If you have any information contact the Lorain County Sheriff's Office Detective Bureau at 440-329-3742. Investigators say the case is still open.

...One of Kustra's four daughters came forward after seeing coverage on the news and provided a DNA sample because the description of the foot matched that of the missing mother.

During the investigation Lorain County Sheriff's Office received information from Advanced Plastics advising them Kustra had not been seen since leaving work on Thursday March 25.

...Investigators are currently tracking the signal of the cell phone Kustra had been carrying.

It seems crazy to me that no blood was found at the scene and the dogs weren't able to pick anything up. I guess if she was hit by a truck, it must have been pretty quick and gruesome.

Snipped from the Press Release:
