This case has been heating up here in Utah. I can't find a thread here on WS, but would love your input.

Wednesday, a second district judge had to decide whether or not to separate the teacher's three alleged victims of sexual abuse, which seem to have a lot in common: All were juniors at Davis High School, all were exposed of having had sexual relations with their English teacher, and all are Altice's alleged victims of sexual abuse.

Out on bail, she has sex with one of the victims. She is put back in jail and denied bond.

Prosecutors had asked for the no-bail hold because most of the crimes testified about Thursday happened when Altice was out on bail in connection with the charges related to the first two alleged victims.

One of her victims is one of her defenders. He is now 18 years old.

On the stand, the teen stole glances at Altice, and said "she didn't deserve" to be on trial. He said he felt bad when he found out she was arrested.

Many people in Utah feel that she should just get a slap on the wrist, lose her job as a teacher, and move on with her life. There are so many people who are saying that these boys are willing participants and it is not rape. I whole-heartedly disagree! If this was a man teacher and a female student, everyone would be up in arms. What say you fellow WS members?
 
I agree with SStar! I also can't believe the outfit she wore to appear in court...the RED, sexy blouse and black pencil skirt. Geesh!
 
I know, right? Every picture they have of her is biting her lip, sexy shirts, posing. She should have gone after an adult man.

I have a definite interest in this case as I know one of the abused boys.
 
She plead guilty! I am very, very shocked; although she did get quite a good plea deal! I still think there is a double standard at play here.

The Standard-Examiner reports that 35-year-old Brianne Altice entered guilty pleas Wednesday in a court in Bountiful to three counts of forcible sexual abuse.

The former Davis High School English teacher is scheduled to be sentenced on May 28. Each count carries a possible sentence of 1 to 15 years in prison.

I wonder how her plea will affect the case against the school district? 2 of the students have filed suit against the school district for not firing her from previous known behavior.

I have a lot of trouble wrapping my mind around being sexually attracted to someone so unequal to yourself. I guess some people only feel ok being intimate with someone they see themselves as being in control of. If that even makes any sense. What happened to going after somebody doing as well or better than yourself in the same stage of life? Is that just too boring these days? Risking your best way of earning a living? I just don't get it, I guess.

I did not know a unionized public school teacher could be fired. Honestly. The criminals in our district have to be made so miserable they quit, then take their mental illness and/or criminal behaviour on to their next job.
 
Don't throw rocks at me but what is the age of consent in Utah?

I am not defending this woman. Just curious as I noticed the boys were all juniors so 17 years old or so.

To answer your question I think she took full advantage of these kids to satisfy her own lusts. She deserves to be punished as she was a teacher entrusted by parents to teach and protect their children. I'd feel the same with a man.

I will add having been a 17 year old (ahem, kind of a long time ago) I admit I don't think the boys are necessarily traumatized by her actions but that doesn't make it acceptable. I have an unhealthy disdain for any adult that sexually molests a child. The devastating impact it has on the victim is immeasurable. 17 though, I'm not sure I consider it a sex offense as much as I consider it a matter of broken trust. Does that make any sense?

Absolutely. :) I know how "lustful" teenage boys can be.

RUMOR: I will say that I know one of the victims in this case. He was in a counseling group with my son. He did feel used and betrayed. He is struggling with his self esteem over this. He absolutely feels that she targeted and pursued him. Although you would think that other boys would this he was cool, he said it made him a target of bullying and was not something he would brag about.

I too think she should be punished for the abuse of power. I will NEVER understand how a woman or a man would prefer someone so young. It is to me a form of pedophilia. JMHO!

That is really unfortunate and I had no idea any of the boys were targeted for bullying and needed counseling. Perhaps I need to not generalize and assume so much. :) I hope your acquaintance heals from this and may this "teacher" receive plenty of time to sit and mull her actions .
