*In general, use the term RSO rather than "SO." For unregistered sex offenders, use description that indicates their status. For unconvicted offenders, use "alleged." For convicted sex offenders who no longer must register (e.g. expiration of registration period), use "former registered sex offender." For those who've never had to register due to state law preclusions, and all others convicted in a court of law, use "convicted sex offenders." The term "predator" may also be used when appropriate in a legal sense, or colloquially, for any reference to a sex offender.
