Peach authorities increase patrol, form task force to catch accused rapist


FORT VALLEY -- Five break-ins in seven days in which two women were raped has prompted Peach County authorities to beef up patrols and form a task force.

Authorities think one man is responsible, and Peach County Sheriff Terry Deese said he thinks the man’s intent is not burglary but rape.

“In none of them, he’s actually broken in and taken stuff,” Deese said. “He’s getting the ladies out of bed or waking them up, so I think his motive is more toward the women than the property.”

Two of the break-ins occurred early Thursday....

April 2nd – female college student wakes up around 3 a.m. to find a man in her house (Julius Simmons Avenue). The man has a gun. He raped her and left.

April 5th – female college student wakes up around 3 a.M. to find a man in her house (Vandaway Street). The man has a gun. He raped her and left.

April 8th – female college student wakes up around 3 a.m. to find a man in her house (Pear Street, which dead ends into campus). The man has a gun. She struggles with him, and he leaves.

April 9th – early morning hours, woman hears something and finds a man in her living room on Green Street. She yells for her husband and the man runs away.

April 9th – early morning hours, woman is woken up by man in her bedroom, she is sleeping in bed with her children, he takes her outside, she struggles with him and he runs away. (Montrose Street – right around the corner from Green Street)

Articles say he is entering through unlocked doors. He is probably walking around at night trying doors to see which ones are open. Who knows he may walk in some homes and then leave if he doesn't see a good victim and they never knew he was there.

The suspect description is the same and the method of operation is similar.

Victims, most sleeping, wake up to find the suspect in their homes. He is wearing dark clothing and his face is covered with a bandanna. He takes nothing.

When a serial rapist attacked women in Fort Valley, Lillian Hadley-Small was among those who answered the call to help the victims....

A $2,500 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of an alleged serial rapist that has been terrorizing women near the Fort Valley State University campus.

At least a dozen break-ins in April are believed to have been committed by the same man....

At a news conference Monday, J.T. Ricketson, special agent in charge of the GBI Perry office, announced the reward at the Macon Regional Crimestoppers office in Macon. Fort Valley police arrested a man about midnight Saturday who matches the description of the suspect in April break-ins and sexual assaults.

Bond denied for accused Fort Valley serial rapist


FORT VALLEY -- Superior Court Judge Tripp Self denied bond Wednesday for a man charged with three rapes and other crimes related to a string of sexual assaults and burglaries near Fort Valley State University in April.

Darrell Aundray Ross, 28, of Fort Valley, also was charged with aggravated sexual battery and home invasion in a Jan. 31 attack on St. Luke’s Lane....

...Assistant District Attorney Cindy Adams said the multiple charges against Ross involve six victims, and other potential victims have been identified....

...But William Phillips, Ross’ public defense attorney, said Ross denies all the allegations against him.

“He says he didn’t assault anybody, he didn’t rape anybody or burglarize any homes,” Phillips said....

...Ross has two prior burglary convictions, Adams said. She said she expects his case will go before a Peach County grand jury in August....
