Body found in Bridgeport
Posted on April 22, 2015.
According to a press release from the Bridgeport Police Department, a dead body was discovered near Edison Street by a juvenile just before 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Police could not determine if the body was that of a male or female, and although the cause of death is unknown at this time, the press release said a gun was also found near the body.
Brant Boatman, a 17-year-old Bridgeport High School student who has been missing since April 11, lives on Edison Street, but it is unknown at this time if the discovery is related to the missing person case.
His parents, Jennifer and Michael Fortune, were notified of the discovery, though. It is unknown if the gun found near the body is the same one the Fortunes reported missing last week.
The body was sent to Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy by Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Clay Poynor. Texas Ranger Ron Pettigrew was called to assist with Bridgeport PD’s investigation.
The police department did not disclose any more information other than what is in the press release, which can be read in full at the bottom of this article. Calls to the Fortunes went unanswered Wednesday night.
The press release from Bridgeport Police Assistant Chief Steve Stanford reads as follows:
“For Immediate Release:
On April 22, 2015, at approximately 3:52 PM, Bridgeport Police Department received a 911 call from a juvenile reporting a deceased person. The caller stated that he and a friend located a deceased person near the 1300 block of Edison Street. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased person in a heavily wooded area to the south of Edison Street. During the investigation, officers were unable to determine the subject’s sex or identity. While the cause of death is pending an autopsy, officers did locate a handgun near the deceased.
At this point, it is not known if this incident is related to the recent Missing Person case involving a 17 year old male. However, the family of the missing person was advised of this incident by investigators.
Wise County Justice of the Peace, Clay Poynor responded to the scene and ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwest Institute of Forensic Science. Texas Ranger Ron Pettigrew is assisting with the investigation.”
