A Greenport woman and her little girl were reported missing yesterday, according to Southold Town Police Chief Martin Flatley.
Flatley said a missing person report was filed yesterday regarding Iona Costello and her daughter, “who went on a trip to New York City and have not been heard from since March 30, 2015. Their family has been unable to contact her.

A Greenport woman and her young daughter, who were believed to be going away for just a couple of days, are feared to be missing by family and friends who have been unable to contact them for the past two weeks.

Southold Police Chief Martin Flatley said a missing persons report was filed for 51-year-old Iona Costello and her daughter, both of whom were last seen on March 30.

The chief said the car belonging to Ms. Costello — the widow of former Costello Marine co-owner George Costello — was found in a New York City parking garage. However the chief said that at this time, no foul play is suspected.

“She did go away on a trip as planned, but she hasn’t returned in time,” said Mr. Flatley. “They are concerned, but there is no reason to believe there is any misconduct.”

Ms. Costello’s mother, Diana Malcolmson of Shelter Island, said her granddaughter, Emily, was expected back at school Tuesday but has been absent each of the past three days. She said the family’s animals are being cared for.

is anything like passports, medications and clothing and toiletries missing from their home??? I mean other than what you take for a few days........parking garages have cameras--what was captured on camera and when---what about her phone and computer records????? Had she been a widow long? Not to be crass but did the death of her husband leave her wealthy? Enough to disappear or to make her a target???????

Iona Costello, who has not been heard from since March 30, has a farm in Greenport with animals that she loves — and it’s unlike her not to call and check on them, even while away, her family said today.

Costello’s family filed a police report yesterday as their concerns mounted after not hearing from her or her daughter Emily, 14, since the day the pair left to go to New York City to see some shows.
“We’re all kind of scratching our heads, trying to paste everything together and figure this out,” said Jane

Costello, the niece of Iona’s husband, George, co-owner of Costello Marine in Greenport, who passed away of a heart attack two years ago.

“Iona loves her animals. That’s what makes us think this is an odd situation,” she said, adding that even when she travels, she always calls to ask how her animals are faring.

Costello and her daughter told staff at the farm that she would be “back on Tuesday,” leading her family to think she’d return on April 7. But, Costello said, there might “possibly have been a miscommunication,” because Emily was on spring break from The Ross School in East Hampton and not expected back for classes until this Tuesday, the 14th.

There are a lot of good photos and more information posted by the SIL who made the initial missing persons report.
This is her personal Facebook page and she has made these posts Public.

Her posts have also been shared by Help Save the Next Girl.

Sadly, it's often a safe bet to conclude they're in the water someplace.

From her past FB posts I can see that IC and her husband loved to travel prior to him passing. I can see her traveling with her daughter, but, she wouldn't leave her car at a parking garage on 42nd st ($$$$) for this long. I hope LE checked the waterfront areas (chelsea and so on) for surveillance footage.

I hope they are both safe. Beautiful mom and daughter.

These are two of the three things that really nag at me about this case.

No cell use for that long when they normally make calls to check in on their animals sounds bad to me, too.

And the location of the car fits with the "going to see a show" but not at all with long term parking for travel.

I don't see how the police can say that they do not suspect misconduct. Perhaps that is because it is only a couple of days past when they were supposed to return, but coupled with the location of the car and the lack of cell phone activity, I think there is more to this than staying over longer on vacation.

I wonder what Play they were going to see? The Lion King? Can they check and see if they made it to the show?

Here is a list of Broadway shows.

If anyone finds out the time the car was found, please post it. ASAP thanx

I'm taping all local news stations at noon hoping to see where the car was found or get further info.

Iona and her daughter do love to travel, Costello said, so it would not be out of the question for the pair to have traveled out of the state or even the country — Iona has family in England, who have not heard from her. “She didn’t tell anyone where she was going, but she’s like that. She might go off to see a friend, or on a long weekend,” Costello said.

Iona is 51 years old, about 120 lbs, 5’10 and blonde; Emily is now tall as her mother.

I wonder if they have access to her bank accounts, credit cards, etc to check for activity?

If they were staying in Manhattan I'd think they would have parked at their hotel-----if they were to stay at one-----have phone records been checked and the computer???? I'd think the shows they wanted to see would have required tickets purchased in advance------

This is disturbing on many levels. It seems so out of character, and for TWO people to go missing together....:waitasec: I wonder if Iona has a new love interest in her life? I hope they are somewhere on vacation and it's all a misunderstanding. (I can hope, right?? )

I just looked up daughter Emily school.

Please note: No classes will be held ... April 1–13 ....

http://www.ross.org/afterschool

Iona and her daughter left on March 30, so Emily missed school 3/31?

.... saying to the farm help, see you Tuesday. They think it's April 7th, then realize school is out until the 14th, and she's still missing.

Iona’s car was found in a parking garage on 42nd Street

Well, at least that makes sense, parking around Times Square for theater and museums. It's also close to Port Authority bus terminal where they could have caught a bus anywhere, including the airports.

We need more information, if two people were planning on being away for 2 weeks, they'd have plenty of luggage with them, rather than what one would bring for a few nights in the City?
