MO - Layla Fast, 17 mos, beaten to death, mom & BF charged, 19 April 2015

Boyfriend, mother held after baby dies, another child injured

The mother told officers her daughter had been bitten by a spider and was unconscious, the chief said.

“I’ve been a policeman for a long time and I have never seen a case of child abuse this severe,” Lewis said. “Anyone even without medical training could have walked in there and seen it was child abuse.”

He said officers found the child “had severe injuries to her face and neck and bruising over most of her body.”

“We have filed this charge based on what we know,” Prosecuting Attorney Forrest Wegge said. “The investigation is continuing.”

According to the probable-cause statement, Fast told police her son had been limping for two to three days and told her that her boyfriend had hurt him. She acknowledged that she did not seek medical attention for her son or report the possible child abuse, the statement said.

A class B felony is punishable by five to 15 years in prison and a class A misdemeanor is punishable by up to a year in jail.

Festus child death: Mother’s boyfriend charged with abuse

FESTUS, MO (KTVI) – Police came to a Festus home Sunday morning for a report of a spider bite. What they found was one of the worst cases of child abuse they have ever seen. A 17-month-old child was found beaten to death. A 3-year-old was also injured in the attack.

I have been reading on this and I am just outraged.

The police said, little baby Layla looked as if she had been in a car wreck, that is how severe her injuries were!

Officials say the child had severe injuries to her face and neck, along with bruising over most of her body.

In fact, they say the little girl looked like the victim of a car wreck.

Tragically, the child was dead when paramedics arrived.

The police chief says the child must have experienced “pure hell” in the minutes before her death, adding that it is the worst case of child abuse he has seen.

"Any person would’ve walked in, would’ve looked at the child, would’ve immediately recognized, without any medical treatment, that that child was not alive," Lewis told KMOX. "And to tell everybody ... that it was a spider that bit the child? Yeah, that’s a little bit hard to believe."

They still haven't charged either one with the murder of Layla yet. I am assuming this charge is for the little 3-year-old brother who had a broken leg. I heard earlier that they are waiting for the autopsy report. The wheels of justice moves very slowly. This just in:

Taylor Fast, 21, was originally charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child – a misdemeanor. Charges have been upgraded to first-degree endangering the welfare of a child – a felony. Her bond is set at $50,000 cash-only.

Look at innocent little Layla with her chubby cheeks & pudgy little thighs and omgosh look at her monkey toes! I just wanna tickle her and blow raspberries on her belly lol. Can you imagine her laughter, hear her giggling? Jesus what the hell is wrong with people? I mean seriously, are they demented? Rip Layla. Praying her brother heals quickly and is placed in a fun loving home.

Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis told Fox St. Louis the baby looked like she'd been "involved in a car accident."

"I’ve been a policeman for 32 years and this is the worst case of child abuse I have ever seen," Lewis said.

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office today (April 22) charged a De Soto-area man, Dewayne E. Boyer, 24, in connection with injuries to a 3-year-old boy who was removed from a Festus apartment Sunday where a 19-month-old baby girl was found dead.

Boyer has been charged with the class B felony of abuse or neglect of a child – serious or emotional or physical injury. He was in custody today at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro on a $500,000 cash-only bond, Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said.

The boy’s mother, Taylor Lynn Fast, 21, whom neighbors said had lived at the apartment for only a few days, also has been charged in connection with her son’s injuries. She was being held in the Festus jail today on a $10,000 cash-only bond, facing a class A misdemeanor of second-degree child endangerment.

I just came across a donation site for Layla's family to be able to give her a funeral. Looks like her extended family had no idea abuse was going on. They appear to be suffering greatly. Sympathies to all of them.

I feel the exact same way, she is such a cute baby, how could anyone want to harm her or even stand by and let that happen to her.

    December 2015:

Taylor Lynn Fast – a mother facing charges over the April death of her 19-month-old daughter, Layla Fast-Evans, and physical abuse of her surviving 3-year-old son – will be bound over for circuit court trial, Jefferson County Div. 10 Associate Judge Jeffrey Coleman ruled last week after a Dec. 10 preliminary hearing.
