A stage collapsed at Westfield Washington High School in Indiana, Thursday evening, injuring up to 24 students. Police report at least one is critical.

The collapse came mid-song as the students performed 'American Pie' and dozens were dancing on the stage. The shocking moment was captured on video and is available at both the links below.

ETA:Clarification: Fox report says one critical but also says none of the injuries are life-threatening?

They appear to be jumping up and down on the stage (over the pit) in unison. Not a good idea on stages or on bridges.

This is ringing horrible bells for me - a wedding in Israel? The same thing happened, but there were deaths, I think.

Why was the orchestra pit covered?? I did watch this video a couple of days ago online. I guessed it collapsed from the combined weight of all of them. Poor design. They should have figured people would dance on it.

Orchestra pits are commonly covered when the orchestra (or band in this case) is on stage. Otherwise a void is created between the performers and the audience.

Of course, such a covering needs to be built correctly and carefully supported.
