A state corrections officer accused of allowing a life sentence inmate to escape prison earlier this month was arraigned today in Baraga County District Court.

Jody Lynn Axley, 38, of Rockland was arrested last week and could face a sentence of up to life in prison if convicted of helping Garfield Lawson III escape from the Baraga Maximum Correctional Facility.
Axley worked in the prison kitchen with Lawson, 35, and Kathy Sleep, 42, a civilian food service worker who is accused of fleeing with Lawson into Wisconsin on Aug. 6 where the pair was captured two days later.
