"(CNN)Singer Ben E. King, whose classic hit "Stand By Me" became an enduring testament of love and devotion for generations of listeners, has died.

King died Thursday in New Jersey, his booking agent, Randy Irwin, told CNN. He was 76.

Born Benjamin Earl Nelson in North Carolina, King moved to New York as a boy and first found success as an early member of the Drifters, the doo-wop group famous for such hits as "Save the Last Dance for Me."

Wow. My local radio station announced today that BB King had died of diabetes complications at the age of 89.

Sounds like they got confused who actually died? Ben E. King was only 76.

Oh, rest in peace. Lovely song.

ETA:perfect for missing people.

My older sisters played this song a million times.
Such a classic tune. RIP Mr. King. ♥

Sunday morning car rides will never be the same. Easy going classics such as this is no more.

He will be missed. R.I.P

I think bb king was taking to hospital but released. His daughter now wants power of attorney to be stripped from his long time manager.

But i think he is still alive at this moment. I hope.

Maybe he let long-term manager be power of attorney due to a long successful relationship of working together and trust.

But I would think most people would prefer their kids.

But since he didn't. Than Iam sure he had his reasons. Whom am I to doubt.

Wow! I've heard all these great hits and didn't know he did them! Ironically, I had Pandora Internet radio playing on my laptop yesterday afternoon/evening and Stand By Me was selected by it! RIP to a talented singer...:rose:
