IN - Michael Hernandez, 23, Crown Point, 1 May 2015

    Michael Anthony Hernandez

SEARCH CONTINUES FOR MISSING CROWN POINT, IND., MAN
The family of missing Crown Point resident Michael Hernandez say it's out of character for him not to call home or show up at work since Friday night.Hernandez, 23, was reported missing to the Crown Point Police on Saturday. Police did not respond to a message for comment on Sunday. He was last seen leaving a bar on the Square around 11 p.m. Friday in Crown Point, where he had watched the Chicago Blackhawks game with a co-worker.

Hernandez's mother, Tiffany Longoria, said she last spoke to her son on the phone while he was headed to her house from the bar. He was driving Longoria's dark blue 2008 Toyota Scion.

"He said that he was just down the street, and then he called his ex-wife and told her that he was coming home as well," Hernandez said. "His (two) girls, my granddaughters, are sick and he said that he would come over and see them (Sunday). He hasn't shown up and it's just out of character for him. He wouldn't say that he will do something if he doesn't plan on being there.

    "Those girls are his priority."

He was driving Longoria's dark blue 2008 Toyota Scion.

Longoria said that her son is 5-foot-8, weighs 165 pounds and is of Mexican descent.

Hernandez's family and friends contacted the police after he failed to show up Saturday at his salesman job at Team Toyota in Schererville.

Lorenzo Longoria, told police his son, 24-year-old Michael Hernandez, was last seen wearing a black coat, blue jeans and a Blackhawks cap at the Safe House Bar and Grill in Crown Point.

The last time anyone heard or saw the Hammond father of two was about 10 p.m., Longoria said.

"I saw him get in his car. I got in my car. I backed out first. I left. That was it," recalled Jake Fleming, a friend who was with Hernandez on Friday.

His mother, Tiffany Longoria, said he called her as he was leaving the bar and said that he would arrive at her Crown Point house in about 15 minutes. He also called his wife, Victoria, and said he was heading to his mother's home as well.

Hernandez is the father of twin daughters. Hernandez separated from his wife in December and was living in Crown Point with his parents, but Longoria said the couple were in the process of working on their marriage.

Tiffany Longoria said that police are viewing security camera footage from the bar where Hernandez went Friday, but there have been no other updates.

A search for a missing Crown Point man will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday in front of the Old Lake County Courthouse. Anyone who wants to help search or support volunteers by bringing water, ice and coolers is welcome. People also can donate food for lunch when the search teams return to the square between 11 and noon.

This is an unusual case...especially that he called his mother and said he'd be home in fifteen minutes. I hope he is ok and found today. If not, maybe info of his whereabouts will turn up in the search tomorrow!

What is the terrain like there? I am wondering if he went off the road somewhere.

wow, can't believe he called his mom and said he would be there shortly, to me that means something happened from when he pulled out of that parking lot and her house. Anyone good with maps that could screen shot the area for us ?

Every time someone goes missing in a car they always end up in the water it seems, or down an embankment, I pray he is ok...

Well here is a pic of the bar where he was and where they are meeting to start searching, 3 min by car. I wish I knew his mom's address so we could see what route he would have likely taken to get home.

I am somewhat familiar with Crown Point. I can't imagine it taking 15 minutes to get anywhere in Crown Point once he left the bar. Maybe, he planned a stop on the way.
