Two assailants were shot dead and one cop was injured in an exchange of gunfire outside a draw Mohamed event in Garland. The event was organized by courageous free speech activists Pamela Gellar and Robert Spencer.

The two assailants were armed with automatic weapons and a grenade! This is a developing story!

The contest, which was offering a top prize of $10,000, has received about 350 entries depicting Muhammad. Caricatures of the Islamic prophet are considered offensive by many Muslims

UPDATE:

Official statement from the city of Garland

As today’s Muhammad Art Exhibit event at the Curtis Culwell Center was coming to an end, two males drove up to the front of the building in a car. Both males were armed and began shooting at a Garland ISD security officer. Garland Police officers engaged the gunmen, who were both shot and killed.
Police suspect the vehicle may contain an incendiary device and the bomb squad is on the scene. The surrounding businesses including Academy Sports, Walmart and Sam’s are being evacuated. Event participants are also being evacuated from the Curtis Culwell Center for their safety.

CNN has interrupted regular programming to cover this thwarted terrorist attack in Garland TX

EDIT: back to regular programming. CNN will be live at the top of the hour with more information on what is almost certainly a coordinated jihadist attack.

A tweet posted BEFORE the attack appears to be from one of the two dead mujahideen

This is unconfirmed but based on the time stamp (posted 20 minutes BEFORE the attack) this guy is either one of the terrorists or a prophet.

The bro with me and myself have given bay'ah to Amirul Mu'mineen. May Allah accept us as mujahideen.

This doesn't sit well with me:

"On Sunday, Geller was swiftly evacuated from the school building when the gunfire erupted, according to a report."

I don't blame her for wanted to leave, but she's not the Head of State. SHE arranged for this event to happen, she invited people to attend, and she left the event and the people in danger while providing for her own individual safety.

The whole thing stinks, top to bottom.

Yes, that does stink. She should be like the captain of the ship and stay until everyone is safely on land. JMO

I'm not surprised that the event was well protected in Texas, but I am surprised that an art contest was held in Garland, Texas.

It was held in Garland because a few months a go a controversial pro-Islam event (promoting Sharia law) was held in the same venue (a school owned property).

Why are you surprised?

This organization isn't interested in art from what I can gather. The event was a provocation and, imo, publicity for the group.

I'm all for free speech, but this is a misuse of it, from what I see. The group has every legal right to hold this art contest, sure. And I have every right to doubt their intentions.

I'm sorry that violence erupted, and I'm grateful that the organizer had plans made to be whisked away quickly. And I'm glad the art-loving crowd was calm and no one but the officer was hurt.

So it was a pissing contest, not an art contest.

In the video I posted above from inside the event - Pam Gellar and Robert Spencer disappeared before word of shots being fired reached the venue - i.e. it would appear that they were already on their way out before the attack. Gert Wilders also left before the attack. I am pretty sure that Pam would have stayed inside if she was still inside the building. She is a very courageous lady who has to travel everywhere with armed guards.

CNN is just reporting that the FBI is planning a detonation of the terror suspects vehicle. There is also concern that the jihadists had explosives in their back-packs.

Thanks. Unfortunately I feel the more important aspect of this story ,i.e. radical Islamic terrorist on our own soil, will be lost because of the views of those attacked.

If one of the "artists" had attacked a Muslim event, well, that would be "newsworthy" and outrageous.
