Stafford man goes missing on way to Howard University

Buckley's family dropped him off at the Staffordboro Commuter Lot at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. He was going to "slug" to Howard University in Washington, D.C., picking up a ride with someone who needed an extra passenger to use the HOV lane. Buckley is a PhD student and needed to pick up materials for Saturday's graduation, but hasn't been seen since. He sent his wife a text message at 10:16 a.m. from near Howard, but didn't show up for a noon meeting at the university and hasn't been heard from since.

Buckley is a white man, 5'11, and 150 pounds with brown hair. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a dark colored t-shirt and gray Converse sneakers.

I wonder if there's an issue with not meeting the graduation requirements.
 
Just saw this and was getting ready to post.This doesn't sound good at all.
 
I sure hope he is OK somewhere. It must be terrible for his wife to have him missing with a baby and young child. All these people coming up missing is getting to be very scary.
 
Couldn't find a facebook or him but found his wife's. Looks like a very loving family. Hope he makes it back soon.

Certainly the stress of a newborn and graduation from med school could be at play here..

That commuter lot has a specific section for slugging and a lot of people that live in Stafford do commute up to DC mostly for work, a lot of military families there. I grew up in stafford in a military family myself. Not a lot happens in stafford but a lot more crime has been popping up lately. Makes me pretty sad when I see local things pop up like this.

I would be willing to bet slugging had to do with it. Except - he probably slugged up to DC successfully, sent the text and then what? How was he supposed to get home? VRE? Uber? Can you slug from DC back into VA?

Deputies do not suspect the drivers who drove Buckley to DC are involved in his disappearance since records show an ATM withdrawal and a text message from Howard’s campus.

Additionally, detectives said late Wednesday that Buckley may have had a handgun with him, but that he “is absolutely no danger to anyone.”
 
Oh my, I live in Stafford! This is a little too close to home.... I hope he is found safe.. The family picture is beautiful, it radiates love and happiness! Prayers out for this family.

Yes, you can slug back to VA from DC in the afternoon.

I doubt that his slug ride had anything to do with his disappearance, though, because he apparently texted from the area of Howard. Has anyone seen information on the location of the ATM he used?

This article here states "Buckley, who is enrolled in a Ph.D. program at the university, apparently made it to the school. His ATM card was used there about 8:30 a.m. "

It goes on further to say "Sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy said late Wednesday afternoon that Lance Buckley may be in possession of a handgun.
Kennedy said Buckley poses no danger to anyone, but would not comment when asked if he posed any danger to himself."
